Albion striker Roman Bednar today emerged as a potential transfer target for Trabzonspor.

The Turkish club are plotting a possible bid to sign the popular Hawthorns frontman, although they have yet to make an official approach to the Baggies.

There is no suggestion that Albion are currently looking to sell the Czech Republic international as they continue their own search for attacking reinforcements.

But that might not stop Trabzonspor from testing the Baggies’ resolve with an offer for the popular 27-year-old.

Trabzonspor have identified Bednar as their top attacking target after abandoning a move to sign Brazilian striker Fred from Fluminense.

A move away from The Hawthorns in the immediate future is unlikely for Bednar, who rediscovered his goalscoring form in the Championship last season as the Baggies won promotion back to the Premier League.

With Albion’s own hunt for a new strikers proving fruitless so far, Bednar and the fit-again Ishmael Miller remain the club’s main two centre-forwards.

Buyer

However, Baggies head coach Roberto Di Matteo is keen to land two new forwards before the closure of the transfer window in August and that could lead to a surplus of strikers in his squad.

Luke Moore remains the man Albion would prefer to offload, but so far they have been unable to find a buyer for the out-of-favour former Villa man.

Teenage forward Chris Wood appears likely to leave on loan to further his footballing education while Simon Cox also has admirers in the Championship and could find Premier League starts difficult to come by with Di Matteo likely to deploy a lone frontman.

Miller is the least likely forward to move on but it is conceivable that Bednar, who struggled to hold down a place in the club’s last Premier League campaign, could be squeezed out.

Albion’s own hunt for new faces will continue this week with Di Matteo still at least three short of the squad he wants to start the season. He is keen to recruit a new goalkeeper to pressurise Scott Carson following Dean Kiely’s move into coaching.
