Ashley Young coy on England hopes
Thursday 22nd July 2010, 10:00AM BST.
Villa winger Ashley Young is refusing to discuss his England hopes in the new era about to dawn after the nation’s World Cup let-down.
But Young has no doubts his team-mate Gabby Agbonlahor will figure in Capello’s thinking, as the national boss prepares for the launch of the European Championship qualifiers with a friendly against Hungary next month.
He said: “Gabby has real quality – there’s not much I really have to say about him. You just have to look at his game and what he contributes to the team. He’s still at a young age and I’m sure there’s plenty he wants to do and achieve.
“”He’s definitely a player who wants to learn and he has the qualities to be a world-class player.”
Young, who made an exciting start to a new campaign with a stunning goal and a new role up-front at Peterborough on Monday, is playing down talk of his joining the demand for new blood in the England set-up.
He said: “I was disappointed in the summer not to be part of the squad for the World Cup and be involved. I want to get myself back into that. But at the moment, the focus and concentration is on the club.
“I want to get my fitness levels up and be prepared for the coming season.”

In the old days it would have been “madam” – but now it’s more likely to be “babe (or round these parts ‘bab’)”, “love”, “duck” or “chick/chuck”, writes Louise Jew.
