Wolves in talks to sign Guirane N’Daw

Wolves have entered negotiations to sign St Etienne midfielder Guirane N’Daw on a season-long loan – but it could be a lengthy pursuit.

The Senegal international, a left-footed defensive midfielder, has long been on boss Mick McCarthy’s radar and the club have been in negotiations for a couple of months, having first scouted him more than a year ago.

Ideally the manager would like to buy the 6ft 3ins powerhouse, but efforts to reach agreement on a permanent deal have so far proved difficult.

The French top flight club are anxious to do business, after being forced to sign the £1.75million-rated 26-year-old from Nantes on a permanent basis when they stayed up to satisfy a clause in the loan deal.

Although St Etienne were keen to sign the player permanently, their financial circumstances have changed and they are now prepared to sell.

Wolves are reluctant to increase their squad any more, knowing they have to name 25 senior players before the transfer window shuts and with no immediate prospect of selling any.

Chief executive Jez Moxey said: “We’re putting together a really good team and we’d probably like to bring one more in.

“Whether that deal is on loan is a possibility, but we may have to sell some players to raise some cash.”

Wolves currently have 28 senior pros and are prepared to offload Andy Keogh, Stefan Maierhofer, Matt Hill and Greg Halford.

Maierhofer appeared to be heading closer to the exit today.

A report in his native Austria claims the £1.8m striker’s agent Max Hagmayr was flying to England today to discuss the termination of the player’s contract, which still has two years left to run – despite Wolves preferring to sell him.

A German second division side in Duisburg are thought to want to take the giant 6ft 8ins forward on a season-long loan.

N’Daw sounds like the sort of player that we should be going for.
In the squad of 25, there will be:-

    Goalkeepers – Hahnemann, Hennessey, Ikeme
Defenders – Zubar, Foley, Craddock, Berra, Mouyokolo, Stearman, Van Damme, Elokobi, Ward
Midfielders – Kightly, Hunt, Jarvis, Henry, Guediora, Edwards, Jones, Milijas
    Forwards – Doyle, Fletcher, SEB,

Vokes and Mujangi-Bia are under 21 so do not count.

If we sell the 4 mentioned, if we sign N’Daw by my reckoning there is another space available?

I thought we might end up paying off the Hoff,Frankowski style.Complete waste of money. The tell tale sign to me was that at the time no one else wanted to sign him.But don’t we have tha same thing with N’Daw? We have not exactly rushed through this deal, and in the meantime no one else has come in.The two French clubs involved don’t seem that keen to keep him.Stoke were linked a couple of years ago,but have not followed it up.Personally I think it would make sense to sign him on loan with an option to sign if he does well.

Why do we want Robbie Keane?
Everybody wants to sign him, but as soon as they do, they all want to get rid of him again.
Our success has been brought about through organisation, hard work, great team spirit and no little skill – We don’t want that destroyed by ‘big time Charlies’ like Robbie Keane.
He is just a badge kisser. He claimed to be a life-long Liverpool fan when he went there. Then he was a life-long Celtic fan and now I guess we’ll hear the same rubbish again when he goes somewhere else.

I think we have a decent squad now, but with the addition of one quality signing we could have a team that might raise a few eyebrows this season.

Good call from 5.) and 6.) about O’hara would push the boat out for him.

And with Mancienne i think its a shame we aint heard the player making noises to join up with a team who he’s played with for two years now…. must still be holding on to them £££££££££ signs in his eyes when dreaming of breaking into the chelsey side.

As for N’Daw, caution is best, get him on loan, there’s seems be something of a risk factor to him but could turn into a gem or another Hoff…

….. Speaking of the Hoff, total bad attidude will get you no where. Would of made it as a basketball player apart from he cant Jump ! so he tried football as a striker apart from he cant even score goals in the fizzy pop league. PAY HIM OFF, USELESS DONKEY.

As for Robbie Keane, we all like the idea of the wonderkid returning to Wolves as a Vetran Superstar…. but he’s still on superstar wages folks face the facts !! why would moxey break the bank to strengthen argueably our strongest position ???

Well im happy with what we got so far, speshly with Van Damme and Fletcher.

Brummierobwolves numbers seem correct, although if Murray is proved fit that may mean a rethink, unless Mick decides to sell one of the keepers. More likely Murray may have to wait until January.
Wolves will want to move the ‘Molineux 4′ on and recover as much of the original fees as possible otherwise there’s a 6 months wage bill for players we can’t use.
Get the feeling Keogh will be kept to fill any spare places in the 25 rather than give him away.
N’Daw ? Not blaming 3 Ms in any way, but, I do agree with telfordWolves. With British players so much more expensive than European (and even more than non EU players)clubs like ours fill their ranks with cheaper mature foreigners and leave our kids languishing. We all witnessed the result of too many foreign players in the British game this summer in South Africa. How ridiculous is it that one of our “bright new things” Wilshire, cannot get into the Arsenal side, and has to play for Bolton.
It’s crazy and the Premiership and the FA have to address it. It can be done perfectly legally.

COSTA, I agree with most of what you have written, however I disagree with your thoughts regarding Mancienne. If you were in his boots I am sure you would want to be playing for Chelsea. Sadly they are now a bigger club than ours. Was not the case some 20/30 years ago! Still remember us giving them a 7-0 thrashing!

Keane was a fantastic player for us but he is now water under the bridge. I would not want him back no matter what!

Milijas is my only slight concern. Yes he has a great left foot and can pass a ball, however he is not quick, nor stromg enough for the prem on last seasons showing. I hope he proves me wrong and produces the goods because he is a good footballer.

Robbie Keane hardly fits the young and hungry mould, would break the wage structure and is not a realistic option. We already have good options upfront too so pointless spending money here.

We won’t sign O’Hara as we already have an abundance of attacking midfielders too, including Jones, Edwards, Milijas, Guedioura, Keogh.

Milijas is quality, lacked a bit last term regarding defensive work and mobility, but a year on the benches will have given him the impetus to make a claim for the shirt this time round when given the chance.

Mancienne is surely not coming if we are in talks with N’Daw. one for the future, £5m seems a bit steep. This is the area of the squad which most needs improving, as we have no cover for Henry at present.

If they’ve been watching N’Daw for a year I’m sure he must have something about him, and I trust MM to deliver the goods again. For every Hoff and Eastwood there is a Kightly or Jarvis so quit ur moaning! At £2m he’s hardly a massive gamble, and will only be to cover for Henry anyway.

You need 4 quality strikers in this league, especially if you are playing 442. Supposing one or both your main strikers gets injured long term, or has a loss of form? Suppose you need to freshen it up from the bench?

So why sell Keogh – even for £2.5M? Could we replace him with anything better for £2.5m?

Alright. Let’s broach the Robbie Keane discussion. If we sign him, where is he going to play (considering we have spent 13.5 million on strikers over two summers)- left back? Already got four, on the bench? It is mentioned above that he would demolish the pay structure- true- it would go against everything the club has leaned towards over the course of the past four years as our club has effectively undertaken a cultural overhaul. Thirdly, what makes anyone thinks he wants to leave Spurs, and Champions League football. Despite all the talk, and the odd decision to send him on loan- Harry has repeatedly stressed how much he respects Keane (he thinks their second album is by far their best) and in the same breath, said that Robbie is important to the future of both Spurs and Take That. We will not be signing Robbie Keane.
Anyway- next topic. Hugh Heffner. I do not believe for a minute the club are going to rip up his contract and kiss goodbye to nearly 2million pounds. I have no idea whatsoever what this bloke has done wrong, but he has seriously upset the apple cart- they won’t write off 2 million though. Wages? Send him out on loan. Unless he plays in England, Spain or Italy mark my words this bloke with score 20 goals next season. Put him out on loan- let someone else pay his wages, and when he starts plundering goals you watch them come in for him.
    Class dismissed.

In Summer 08, we bought Hill, Shackell, Friend, Vokes, Jones, Iwelumo and Stearman.
Of those, I’d say Shackell and Friend were probably mistakes. Hill helped us get promoted. Maybe he isn’t strong enough for the Prem, but it would be harsh to call him a bad buy. I’d say that’s 5-2 in Mick’s favour.

In January 09, we only bought Berra. 1-0 to Mick.

In Summer 09, we bought Milijas, Hahnemann, Doyle, Halford, Surman, Zubar and Maierhofer.
Hahnemann, Doyle and Zubar are obvious successes and Milijas is class, even if he doesn’t play at the moment. I reckon that’s 4-3 to Mick.

In January 10, we didn’t sign anyone, though we’ve subsequently signed Guedioura – so I’ll include him. 1-0 to Mick.

Too early to tell for the crop of Summer 10, but the early signs are good.

So. For me, that’s 11-5 – and a very good ratio of success. All kudos to Mick.

Of the 5 relative failures, 3 (Friend, Shackell and Surman) have already signed for other clubs probably at a trivial loss to Wolves. That leaves Halford and Maierhofer as the only misfits.

It’s hardly warm bath and razor blades time, is it ?

You also state that Wolves cannot buy until they get some money in. Interesting. It doesn’t seem to have stopped us spending more than anyone except Man City so far. So, do you have any evidence for that, or did you just make it up ?

Wolves are going about there buisness the right way take alook around the premier league people alot of teams in debt but there are a couple of teams not in debt Wolves beeing one of them, why I hear you say well thats easy because they have a structure on wages they can spend and money they can spend on tranfers it must not be broken thats what got teams like Portsmouth and Leeds in the crap there in now. Its detremental to the club they carry on with that structure show teams like man city that you dont have to spend 250k a week on a player to perform at the highest level keep up the good work Mick rewards will come there way soon enough

It is disappointing to see that the Wolves have been abroad again for players. My question is, whatever has happened to the acadamey, where are the younger players? There has to be youngsters who have abilty around the Midlsnds and that the Wolves cannot spot them or the coaching is not as it should be. Whilst coaching is important, it is playing in a match that develops the winners.

M.M has been here for four years and the only one who has appeared is Wayne Hennessy. His problems last season was having to play in front of poor defence who gave him no protection and his confidence was shattered.

I wish the Wolves well and look forward to a few acadamy players turning out
