Wolves midfielder David Edwards has insisted he is finally over his injury woes and is confident of regaining his place next season.

The Wales international missed just under four months after suffering an ankle injury in the win at Tottenham in December.

Edwards returned for the defeat at Arsenal in April but now admits he wasn't fully fit.

He said: "It does take a while to get fully fit. I was telling myself in my head that I was fine because even though I could feel my ankle, I didn't think it was holding me back.

"But maybe you just lose that milli-second, your timing is a little bit off and it just maybe isn't happening for you, even though you're telling yourself you're fine, the reality is you're just not quite there."

Despite the increased competition from Adlene Guedioura and a soon-to-be-fit again Michael Kightly, as well as Karl Henry, David Jones and Nenad Milijas, Edwards remains confident of regaining his place.

He said: "I didn't start last season, but before my injury I was playing every week and I think a lot of people looking on wouldn't have thought that was going to happen with players such as Nenad.

"So it's up to me to work hard and play to the best of my ability to make sure I'm the squad and around the gaffer's team selection.

"I'm confident I can do that because I've done it in the past. I was out for four months last season, but I think I made 16 starts which was really good considering the injury.

"When I came back, I felt I wasn't quite back to how I was playing before I got injured. But with the rest from the summer break, it feels like nothing ever happened to me.

"In training I can feel myself getting to be as good as I was last season. If I can continue that, then hopefully I can stay injury-free and play to the best of my ability.

"Towards the end of last season, I didn't feel I was doing that because of coming back from the ankle injury.

"Maybe that's what happened to Fernando Torres – he's a great footballer, but he struggled to find form during the World Cup."
