Villa’s Nicky Shorey waits for move
Tuesday 6th July 2010, 10:57AM BST.
Out-of-favour Villa left-back Nicky Shorey is expected to resist the advances of Nottingham Forest and hold out for a move in the Premier League.
Forest manager Billy Davies confirmed the Championship club were keen to bring the £2million-rated defender back to the City Ground, following his successful loan spell there last season.
But sources in the player’s camp have indicated to the Express & Star that the England international is eager to remain in the top flight.
Shorey, a £4million buy from Reading two years ago, ended the season on loan at Fulham and a permanent move back to his native London would appeal.
However, any move to the Europa League finalists would now hinge on who the Cottagers appoint as their new boss, following Roy Hodgson’s defection to Liverpool.
West Ham have also been linked with the 29-year-old, who has one year remaining on his deal but is expected to leave this summer, after finding himself third-choice behind Stephen Warnock and Luke Young last season.

Shorey would be stupid not to join Forest who will be pushing for promotion this season. If you want regular football mate get down to one of the biggest clubs in the championship. We need clubs like them back in the prem and shorey is someone who could help them achieve their goal this coming season.

If I were Shorey, I wouldn’t set my sights too high. If any Premier clubs come in for him, they’re only going to be basement clubs such as Bolton, Blackburn or West Ham.
He had his chance to shine at Villa and he blew it big time!

Not sure where this journalist got their information from but the story is completely false. Shorey has already signed and agreed terms with Forest and will be unveiled on Thursday.

I think Villa should keep him.He started to improve alot just before being loaned out, then had a good run in the team for Fulham..Rotation is needed to have a successfull season and having Shorey come in for the lower league or cup games is ideal..He aint a bad player. He linked up very well with Ashley Young on the left.

To Avfc,
I hope Shorey agrees with you and comes down to us next year, he was outstanding for us in the 9 games he played.
Also, nice to read an email wanting us back in the prem, I hope Villa do well this year and get in that top four! good luck!

Okay, i can see why Stephen Warnock is ahead of Shorey but Luke Young???…please. And i thought he was a right back anyway.
You would think Martin O’Neill with his Forest history would be telling Shorey that he should be looking at dropping down a level with Forest to get regular football – and lets face it, even if he played shocking he doesnt have any competition for the left-back spot so he would play every single match, injury permitting.
I think this is a perfect move for both Shorey and Forest as he could be playing Premiership football with us anyway for the 2011/12 season and show Villa what they are missing. Or even if we dont get promoted he could build up his reputation again and possibly get a move to another Premiership club. If he goes to Fulham, surely Paul Konchesky would always be ahead of him? He would be very silly to turn a move to Forest down as we would all love to see him in Nottingham next season. Lets hope common sense prevails.
And also hope Villa win the Premiership next season. For the past couple of seasons i have admired the way you play football and Martin O’Neill has done a fantastic job. Come on Villa! but most importantly…COME ON YOU REDS!!!
