Harry Redknapp would pick Villa trio

The favourite to be the next England manager would have three Villa players in his starting line-up.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp, the man tipped to replace Fabio Capello should the Italian depart the national team’s hotseat, believes James Milner, Gabby Agbonlahor and Ashley Young all deserve to start during the 2012 European Championship aualifying campaign.

He said: “James Milner is one of the young players who were a success in South Africa, so deserves a regular starting place to see if he can produce that form on a consistent basis.

“Of the young hopefuls who didn’t make the final cut, maybe now’s the time to give Gabby Agbonlahor of Villa an extended run for England, along with Manchester City’s Adam Johnson and Ashley Young, also of Villa.

“There are some in Capello’s squad who will still be around at the next World Cup – Stevie Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole certainly have one more in them and I think Wayne Rooney has two.

“But then you start to look at players at younger levels who are hoping to make the breakthrough.”
