Michael Kightly not yet fit for Wolves
Friday 25th June 2010, 11:29AM BST.
Wolves winger Michael Kightly has admitted he will miss the start of pre-season training.
The luckless wide man is progressing well in his recovery from chronic inflammation to his patella tendons in his knees.
Kightly has travelled to Spain and the United States, having injections and extensive treatment in a bid to cure the unusual condition.
While his fitness has vastly improved, the 24-year-old confirmed Monday’s phased return of the squad for the start of pre-season training will come too soon.
He said: “I don’t want to set too many targets. I’d like to be back at some stage of pre-season, but won’t be the start of it.
“I’m feeling a lot more positive now and looking forward to cracking on with pre-season. I’d hope to play some part of a game in pre-season.
“But this injury is quite intense and something you can’t rush back from. I’ve been out too long now to rush back and suffer a setback. To go back straight into that would put me back.
“Hopefully I can play some part of a pre-season friendly.”
But Kightly insists his rehabilitation is going well and believes there has been ‘massive’ progress.
He said: “The rehab has been going well. The specialists are really happy. I had another injection a few weeks ago and had to rest it for a couple of weeks.
“Other than that, I’ve been working hard with the physios and have progressed massively.”
Kightly has made just three senior starts since March 2009, after initially undergoing surgery on his hip and ankle.
And the former England under-21 ace admitted it has been a struggle with the mental side of being injured for so long.
He said: “Everyone at the club knows how frustrated how I was last year and how I struggled to deal with it mentally.
“I’d worked so hard to get where I got and then never really got to full tilt and 100 per cent.”
Kinds words from manager Mick McCarthy and chairman Steve Morgan have helped keep his spirits up.
Kightly said: “That sort of thing helps massively. When you’re injured you get very low and hearing the gaffer say I’m still an important player to him is a big boost.
“The chairman also said some nice things to me at the Player of the Season awards.”

Kigtly will b like a new signing for us this season, and hopefully he wont pick up any new injuries when he comes back. I feel that the right side of midfield was another major reason why we couldnt score.

Unfortunately I think he’s finished as a Premier League player, too many injuries have taken their toll.
He should be sent out on loan for the season to a Championship club.

What absolute nonsense Rudolf (1) happy with everything to date, I wouldn’t mind a punt on Bullard. I know he’s injury prone but wouldn’t cost much, he’d be an addition to the moral at the club and if it meant the tesco bags missed another target the three “m”‘s would become heroes in my eyes!
up the wanderers!

I’m sure he’ll thank you for you message of support Rudolf. It’s probably best you keep your carp comments to yourself!!

and lyechris, you started off well with your assessment of Rudolph the Red Nose RedDeers comment BUT Bullard???
Do me a favour, yes on his day is a good player. However, he has major injury history, major drink problem, major wage packet and not a team player. Just ask the Hull Fans.
Thanks but NO Thanks!!

If he can get fit and stay fit, Kites will be great again for us.
He was always better than Jarvis and look how well he adapted to the premiership!
Kites is quality and he looked good in the few games he played last year, getting the penalty against Villa for example!
If we play 4-4-2, he’s first choice for right wing.

Unfortunately I have major reservation about whether he will be able to regain his best form. Some sportsmen are injury prone, and in his case this is compounded as pace is a major attribute of his game. I will be delighted to be proved wrong though.

Can’t wait to see Kights back. We’ve all seen how good he is when fit so let’s not forget that.
No chance for Bullard. Not the right kind of personality for the squad.
No to bullard as explained above, also the players say he is very annoying. when on tv for 5 mins he comes across as a good laugh but players say he never gives up to the point they cant stand him.
leave well alone

lets be honest – nobody on these boards knows about his fitness – so lets believe what he says, understand he has the best treatment the world can offer, and wish him a speedy recovery.
Lete me just add, Kites is my favourite player – and It would be great to see him back.

2) Rudolf.
Don’t you just love it when some clown with absolutely no idea what he is talking about comes on with this sort of negative nonsense. God forbid Michael Kightly reads it, but, it will have really helped his confidence if he has.
If you do check in MK, get well soon and be challenging for a place. Take no notice of our amateur surgeon, just take comfort from the fact he a serial drivel poster. Look at the babble he’s written about Steve Morgan’s plans for the stadium.

I trust that Michael Kightly will be back as good as new but should not be rushed. I am sure there is more signings to come but if we had to go with what we currently have fit, here would be my line up for the Stoke game and it is certainly strong enough-
Hahnemann Zubar Craddock Molokouyo Van Damme Guedioura Henry Jones Jarvis Doyle Fletcher

Just hope that this is not a terminal, career threatening injury of Kites. With Hunt not yet fit for the start of the season we are all keeping our fingers crossed that our one reamining ‘true’ winger Jarvis does not get crocked. We may need another wideman (if we employ two wingers) say in Eagles because we can’t afford to wait to see whether Geoffrey develops or not.
#13. I very much doubt the injury, effectively sore knees is ‘terminal’ ! I hope not, cos I banged my elbow on the living room door yesterday and it was still giving me a bit of jip when I got up this morning. To be on the safe side I’ve just booked a trip to Ibiza to have it looked at.

Agree with all those who doubt kightly will ever return as one of the most promising players in the game, his injury is very serious, and like big Chris & Murray, and god forbid Hunt, they are not going to feature in the Premiership again.
Look at some of the signings in recent times, and it should be clear that neither kightly or Murray will return, and wolves are aware of this
Report abuse
Rudolf is a red nosed baggie.
Agree that penetrative widemen are an injury concern, but they always are aren’t they? George Ndah my lord.
We have an abundance of players who will ‘do a job’ in wide midfield, such as foley, ward, elokobi, who may not offer as much going forwards as kites, jarvo and hunt but who i’m sure MM will be more than happy to employ.
for me the big worry is defensive mid, as if henry gets crocked / suspended we’re up albion creek without a dingle. assuming mancienne is tied to the chelsea bench by the homegrown rule, I really hope we sign NDaw or another ‘the next vieira’ (not olifinjana though, please)
also, please steer clear of dindane. if he wanted to play for us he would have signed already, and the willie mckay factor induces fear and paranoia on my part. also, he’s not getting in ahead of doyle or fletcher, is he really gonna want to sit on our bench all year? methinks no.
love the wolves, onwards and upwards
COME ON ME BABBIES!!!

I’m sure all Wolves fans will be hoping that Kightly does regain full fitness. It was quite evident that we missed an attacking right winger last season playing 4-5-1.
As we will probably adopt a 4-4-2 formation at the start of next season, I can only see one winger playing at any one time. In which case with both Kightly and Hunt unavailable for for the first matches, it will mean we will have to rely on Jarvis until the others are fit to compete.
Lets hope he does’nt get injured in pre-season training/matches.

alan bates – Big Chris isnt going to appear in the prem again for wolves, not because of his injury, but because hes getting too old, and he was already down in the pecking order with our striking options.
Im looking at our recent signings, adn cant see your point. The only goalkeeper we have bought is USA, and hes hardly a long term replacement for our goalkeepng department. Considering how long Murray has been out, we would have terminated his contract if we felt he wasnt up to it. He hasnt even hit 30 yet, which means he could have a good career ahead of him and even make his way into the england team.
As for Kights, his injury isnt any worst than Jarvis’s injury a few seasons back, and jarvis came back didnt he. I will agree that in some cases injuries can ruin careers, but considering these players you mention are still youngsters in their respective positions, means they all have plenty of time to come back for us.
Get fixed soon Kites! And ignore some of the comments on this board. You’re in good hands and no doubt will be working to be fully fit alongside Matt Murray, under the expert eye of Tony Daley, who surely must be an expert in career threatening injuries??
this sort of thing happens a lot with players who have come from the lower leagues. There bodys have not been conditioned right to play at such a high level and it takes its toll eventually . Personally think he needs to have his own training regime when hes back fit kinda like ledley king. Id rather a 100% fit kites for 25 games a season then a 60% kites for 40
Report abuse
Kites will be back, of that I have no doubt. Take your time, Michael, we can wait.
im sure kites is having the best treatment money can buy, if there was doubt would wolves send him around the world for the best treatment, they send him around the world to get him fixed because they like many of us believe in him, if matt murry gets fit also we have 10 million pound worth of talent just waiting to be let loose, so good luck lads ignore the fools who know nothing
Report abuse
Kights will get fit again and will run wild against some very average full backs. It’s just going to take time. I agree with a previous poster, 20 games with a 100% fit Micheal Kightly is better than 40 with him only 50/60%.
That lot down the road are looking up the A41 with a decidedly green tinge….
UP THE WOLVES!!!
PS. How good would it be to see Matt Murray between the sticks again?
No2 are you for real?? Yesterday you said mol had a few spare seat for most home games last season, apart from the away ends where were they?? And now your sayin kites is past it? Are you really a wolves fan or like 1 of the posts above says a red nosed baggie?
If you are wolves can you please say something positive about Wwfc or are you one of these fans that expect us to sign messi&be in the champs league to make you happy.. Best of luck kites&hurry up back pal we need you as you a excellent player.

I don’t think he’ll be properly fit this side of Xmas. I think we need more cover down the right and up front – David Nugent looks a good bet to me at around £2.5 million. 6 goals in a carp team from an attacking wide right position last season – I always thought he looked useful and at 25 he is the right age.
will be like a new signing when he’s fit again, we missed pace down the right last season, and we’ll have kites jarvo and hunty playin for the 2 wide positions – mick seems to be developing genuinely good competition for all over the pitch. finally how about we stop waiting for the word to loan mancienne and put in a permanent bid??????

Kites with hair looks like Michael Owen!

get fit, get strong, get sharp, and dont rush it !!!!!! Sure if you do all this you will come back better than ever !!!!
What are you lot going on about, he’s finished rubbish etc, remember Lescott anyone bet you all said the same there ??
Mancienne, come on, you know you want to !!!! sign that dotted line.

Kites is a class act. When he gets 100% he will be playing in an even better team. Good luck Kites.

What can I say rudolf apart from WHAT!!!! he’s 23, he has years ahead of him yet Owen Hargreaves has been out for just as long is he finished as well ??? looking forward to seeing him back on the pitch and playing at his best, he will be like a new player

KIGHTLY as been tremendous for WOLVES.
How he will return it’s anybody’s guess. What I would say is he will return but not the same kite’s we all know.Kite’s injury is a bit of a mystery ,I know the positive spin,s are being put out,I am also aware kite’s was due back before the end of season and after january. So for me KITE’S will come back when he think’s he is ready even if that be two year’s down the line.He should only return when 110% ready otherwise KITE’S you will be back in were you are.So fellow WOLVES fans dont expect KITE’S the flyer as his PACE as surely been dented, for now let’s hope he recovers and can start playing regular for the reserves thehe can be assesed.

I totally agree with Rudolph!!!
The few games he played last yr were dreadfull. I do have a little knowledge of fitness and lets be honest not many have 12 months out and come back as good.
Should have sold himand SEB when we got promoted!
What little we saw of Kightly last season showed that he wasn’t Premiership material.
He is however a very good lower level player and should be sold as such.
You cannot afford to hold dead wood at this level with high salaries etc.
