Wolves dismiss Stephen Hunt injury
Tuesday 22nd June 2010, 12:02PM BST.
Wolves insist Stephen Hunt will return as good as before after dismissing fears of his injury.
The 28-year-old completed his £3m move to Molineux yesterday on a three-year contract, despite being in rehabilitation for a damaged foot sustained against Wolves at the end of January.
Both the club and Hunt, who attended his press conference on crutches, steered away from setting comeback dates apart from confirming he will miss the first few games of the season.
Wolves’ concerns at Hunt’s injury – he had to have a ligament re-attached to his foot – and the subsequent price were believed to have been factors in the delay in getting the deal done.
But chief executive Jez Moxey and the club are satisfied Hunt will make a full recovery.
He said: “I accept that it’s unusual for players to be bought when they’re injured. But we’ve tracked Stephen for a very long time. He’s doing well in terms of his rehabilitation.
“Hull have been very open in providing us with his medical records and the surgeons who performed the operation are very satisfied with the rehab and progress he’s making.
“There are no complications. It’s just a question of time and Stephen will play when he’s ready.
“He started work with us yesterday and has been working out in the anti-gravity treadmill.”
Hunt initially played on for three weeks with painkilling injections, after initial x-rays revealed no damage and he didn’t see a foot specialist at the time.
But, when the pain continued, the Republic of Ireland international eventually underwent an exploratory operation which showed some damage, and a little bone was pinned.
He said: “I wouldn’t say it was mis-diagnosed, but it took a bit longer than expected.
“But I had an x-ray in my medical which showed everything is in place – Wolves wouldn’t have signed me without having a good look at that.
“People only need to look at my Prozone statistics and that will tell you enough.
“I know what I’m capable of and where I want to get to and I’ll make sure I get there.
“I’ll miss the first few games of the season. Hopefully it won’t be too many but for the next two months, I’m going to be working tirelessly.
“Everyone is happy and I’m over the worst of it now.”

This in theory will turn out the same as what happened with Jarvis albeit he was not injured when we purchased him but he got injured not long after and before the start of 07/08 season – He finally played I think it was in the December and it has turned out well for he, I think Hunt will fit in no problem and the competition for places will be good to see. Overall, good signing and negotiated well to get on the cheap

According to these statistics he was the 3rd most effective midfield player in the Premier league after Lampard and Fabregas up until his injury which is quite impressive, also 6 goals in just over half a season for a relegated side shows you what he is capable of.
I love the bloke just for turning down down the Tescos to join us!

Hunt is a quality player. One of the best that will be in our squad. Cant wait till October/November when he is firing on all cylinders.

Not happy signing a player for that money while still injured, and have to trust that the surgeons are correct and he will come back as good as he was…Big Chris who suffered a serious foot injury still has not regained the form of a couple of seasons back, thats why Wolves sold him.
The amount of money spent on the january transfer window, and the recent signings would equate to signing a really decent player in Robbie Keane, who with Doyle would have been a force to be reckoned with next season.
When will we ever learn, its quality not quantity.

When will you ever learn that Robbie Keane aint coming.
Also he would completely upset the balance of the squad & the ethos that the club are trying to instill.

3. If we go out and wreck our pay structure and also spend most if our budget on s player like keane and then he goes and gets injured, where dose that leave us. No cash left to spen no player and a huge wage bill. We are doing it the right way steadily but surly. PS excuse my spelling on mobile.

Sorry I meant 4.

“For that money”? We paid a piffling three million quid for an established international proven at this level, who is unequivocally expected to make a full recovery at some point in the early season. I’d say that’s pretty good business.
And, for once and for all, WE CAN’T AFFORD ROBBIE KEANE. Why would he come to us anyway? He’s a bit young to be selecting his clubs for purely sentimental reasons.
That said, another striker would certainly complete a summer of good business. I reckon we’d be able to get Kezman from PSG on the cheap too…

Number 3 Angry wolf I am also not happy that we still have so called fans like you who are not happy with anything the club do, get a life or go support Albion.

3 – If he shows half the form of what he showed for hull last season, he will be worth the £3m. Big chris, was getting too old to be a serious contender to start in our team. He was never going to be ahead of Doyle or Fletcher this coming season, and it seems, that Mick believed that Blake and Vokes would also be ahead of him. This is why we sold him.
I personally would much prefer the signings weve made than just signing 1 player, even if that player is Robbie Keane. It may be quality not quantity, but 1 player doesnt make a team, and we needed to improve various aspects of the squad to improve on last season.

Couldn’t agree less angry wolf. I’m very pleased with what we’ve got and would prefer that anyday to Keano coming back. Just for the record – I was a huge fan of Keano in his Wolves days.
Great signing. Of course wolves had the doctors check, and treble check that injury before paying £3m.
Would like to see Sidwell here, not quite sure why we are not trying.

Roy and Angry wolf both have a valid point, I am refering back to our purchase of the great Tony Daley whoops, and not so long back other players who were promised to do wonders. however we could have, if at all possible purchased Ronaldo, ( just an example) he breaks his leg first game, what then, WE ARE A TEAM, England should take note of results we gound out last year as a model, and we wolverhamptoners get behind our team,

3- angrywolf
Name says it all,
We stayed up with a few games to spare
We have made an excellent signings for a team like wolves.
We have now a good squad of players all battle for places.
What is wrong with you????????/

Angry Wolf may have a point, who was that player, oh yeah TONY DALEY. but I do agree we, in the postion we are at the moment we need a team. not a one man show or we could end up as Harrowwolf suggested broke!!! Ronaldo or Kaka are still in a team, without the qauntity around them they are useless, MM is trying to build and He is doing that. WOLVES FOREVER

I think it’s fair to say that Angrywolf doesn’t not speak for the vast majority, and probably posted in hasty anger rather than pondering the sheer wrongness of what he was saying…

awesome signing! can the neg lords please give up now? the season has not even started and ppl are slating thier own team! i can imagine rooney would have words if he were a wolves player.
on a positive note – what a bargain! all respect to MM – and he is still in SA. cant wait for next season, we have made awesome buys! wolves will get bigger and bigger – year after year if we keep this up.
I doubt Sidwell would be interested. I reckon he misses the South, and thats why hes not shone at the Villa.

angry wolf do us all a favour and shut up – typical moaning wolves fan who knows nothing about football and lives in a dreamworld!!!!!!! keane aint gona come when he can go to a team who will be fighting for europe – ie villa man city etc etc
Report abuse
Never mind Keane, can we afford O’Hara?

Hunt is a good signing and the way we have gone about getting players in early is also very wise.
I would have preferred HUNT fit and healthy,as these sort of injuries can be recurring,so it could be a case of play after a few games and then be out for a few months.
Then all the happy blowers will come out say “why did we buy him injured”?
I can answer that to keep his brother-in-law (doyle).I have not got the article at hand but the star reported MICKO saying “Hunt will not be bought injured”.
If all goes well in his recovery he is a very good player and I hope he does superbly well for us,I am just afraid of hearing “Hunt as not recaptured his form due to foot injury”.
On the whole excellent performances by the 3m’s cant wait to fly over for some of the games.
Big Chris had a small run of 10 to 12 games where he notched a good goals to games ratio.
The rest of his careers before and after has largely been forgetable. Nothing to do with his foot injury.
He’d not done his foot when he missed that howler for Scotland…. just a big poweful striker with limited pace and ability who’d surpassed his level, but has now gone back there.
Great guy, but no prem player, foot injury or not.

We are looking very strong and certainly an improved position on last year is well in our grasp. The 3 promoted clubs have got to be favourites to go back down and then you have Wigan, West Ham and Bolton. If these 6 teams do not spend £10-15 million, they will have a season of struggle!
Get all our players fit and we have strength in depth. Here would be the starting line up and the reserves in brackets.
Hahnemann (Murray)
Zubar (Foley)
Craddock (Stearman)
Moyokoulo (Berra)
Van Damme (Elokobi)
Kightly (Edwards)
Henry (Guedioura)
Jones (Milijas)
Jarvis (Hunt)
Fletcher (Vokes)
Doyle (Ebanks-Blake)
There are more signings planned and we have a wealth of young talent.

Well done, Wolves – I’m happy with the signings made to date. Can’t wait to see how things pan out next season. It’s good to have this optimism about our club in contrast to how I feel about what is going on in Rustenberg, S.A.
Angry Wolf, spends loads on 1 player like birmingham or spread the wealth to get a better class of signing than last season…. I leave you to ponder once you have finished double maths.
A post said something about Tony Daley. A completely different injury to Stephen Hunt so it has no relevance!
I think Wolves have been proactive this season’s summer transfer window. Not sure where the likes of Angry Wolf are chirping on about!
A great signing. Building a team to survive in the prem is all about gradually improving strength in every poition and I think MM is doing great this pre season.
Blasting all the cash on one over priced player nearing the end of their footballing best would be stupid and MM knows this.
Overall Im very pleased with the progress being made by MM and the tean and can’t wait for next season. Still think we need a central midfielder.
Whether he’s 3 or 4 Angry wolf needs some anger management therapy, or change his name to deluded wolf. Robbie Keane couldn’t give two hoots about Wolves and as he’s changed clubs so many times (he must have had a big bedroom wall as a kid to get all his favourites up) there is clearly something wrong with the man.
I think that Celtic suited him perfectly, playing in front of three men and a dog he was able to practise his hand springs to perfection. My only regret about Keane was when Mr McGoo left him and Bully out of that semi final team at Villa Park.
Now let’s move on !
Hunt’s a great signing and as for those who are accusing Wolves of signing relegation players, they should understand that not all players in a team that get relegated are poor. Even the Albion have Dorrans.

As the maccies advert says….I’M LOVIN IT!
I’ll admit when we came up I was a bit unsure that we’d manage to stay up. But oh happy days we did. Now we’ve added what I believe to be proven quality within out budget I’m confident we can build on from last season and hopefully finish mid table. Just as long as we smash the lulu’s I’m more than happy. They’re gettin way to big for their Small Heath sandals!
O’hara and Mancienne and that might just do it unless we fancy a suprise right winger as well…Fear Kites wont feature much if he gets injured again
Report abuse
personally, I think the Wolves board deserve some credit for learning from previous mistakes, getting in early and snapping up some real quality players. If we can get some early momentum I think we can look forward to a successful season away from the relegation dog fight.
A HAPPY WANDERER

angry wolf please calm down
like it has been said already mr keane must have a big bedroom wall as a kid. stephen Hunt will turn out to be one of the bargain buys of the season and i cant wait for the new season to start

Does anyone know how Kightly is getting on? I heard he is working hard to be ready for pre-season. does that mean he may be fit for the start of the campaign in July/August?
I’m hoping it does as if we are to play 4-4-2 we need to practice it and because Hunt is injured we would only have 1 fit winger in Jarvis.
I know we have a few decent kids that could play in friendlies, but that would mean either Foley (Right Back), Edwards (Centre Mid) or Guedioura (Centre Mid) will start on the right. Unless there is another winger on way.
Jez Moxey said that they are looking at one more player, this probably means two and hopefully a few loans from top clubs.
To make me completely happy I would like a couple of these;
Guirane N’Daw (gamble on forgeiner but looks ok.)
Michael Mannciene (Doesn’t look like Ancelloti want him, but would he fit in with a 4-4-2?)
Jamie O’Hara (He’s got to go somewhere and nobodies come in for him yet and can’t be on that much more than Hunt.)
Jack Wiltshire – Loan (Why does everybody assume he wants to go back to Bolton?)
Alexis Sanchez (I’m not one for looking at players in the world cup, but this lad has something about him! Probably snapped up by Real Madrid or someone though.)
Danny Welbeck (Good enough to score against us and was willing to drop down to play at Preston.)
Carlos Vela – Loan (Eventually this lad had got to be given a compelte season somewhere!)
I know some people will say this is rubbish but none of them are far from realistic!

4 – angrywolf – YOU MUPPET – you are never satisfied. We are buying quality in the price area in which we ccan shop. Keane would be great but £70k per week plus a £10 mill fee would be poor value.

last season we had southbank barmy army, wolvesmod ,bobwolf, all proffessing to know better than the three m’s and now angry wolf. as for robbie keane when he left for coventry he had the hunger and despite the better quality players around him at inter, spurs, liverpool,he won exactly what? nothing. he may be better than fletcher but fletcher has more determination and ambition.
believe me wwfc will surprise a lot of people this coming season and as for the baggies they just cant attract the players needed to survive. utw

I agree it’s good to see some early signings, which will allow some much needed quality time together before the season starts, and allow the Manager to formulate his side for the first match.
I hope that Hennesy stays as I think he could still become a very good keeper with some quality coaching and a better defence in front of him.
I agree with some comments that it is a risk to sign Hunt after a major injury, only time will tell if it’s a good decision.
Let’s hope the 3 M’s have made the right decision.

At least the article gives us an insight into the nature of Hunts injury. A foot injury could mean anything from a bruised toe to a compound fracture of the ankle.
If the surgeons are happy with the operation then this should’nt be more than an inconvenience at the start of next season.
In which case this is an excellant signing.
As regards to all the comments on Robbie Keane, it is clear that Wolves are not interested in signing him and he is clearly not interested in signing for Wolves. End of story!

Angry wolf are you a Sandwell town fan cuming on here as a wolf in sheeps clothing? What is wrong with you?? hunt is a class player&if you are really a wolves fan (but I have my doubts ) you will know EVERYTIME hunt has come to mol he has been excellent&the other team star man
I’m so happy we have signed him&even more happy he turned you lot down to come here.. We are moving in the right direction this is the best times we have had in the last 25 years,be proud if you really are wolves&get behind the boys instead of moaning the way all fickle wolves fans do..
Hhhhoooowwwwllll
ps robbie keane is going to villa after world cup is all he will sign on the dotted lines for them&im glad cos 70k a week is way over the odds for a player who is not a natural goalscorer,we already have a player like keane in keogh just robbie is 10x as good, but not the player we need at this moment in time..

Moxey said we would not buy quantity but we would buy 4 or 5 quality players.
So far we have signed 2 quality players for a total of £10m so I am really looking forward to the other 2 or 3 ”quality” players arriving before the start of the season.
see i,m not as mad as i thought i was, in january i posted on this site and said hull would get relagated and we would get hunt for far less than 5 mil. we offered at the time, everything is looking rosy, now all we need is a ball winning midfield play maker in the paul ince mold and bobs your uncle and we can push onwards and upwards… we are wolves.

Oh deary me, why did we sign him? He’s an injured head!! (sighs in disgust)

39 i know why we signed him , he is a quality player , yes he’s injured its a gamble , but wouldn’t it be nice to see hunt and kightly battling for a place on that right flank with a fully fit matt jarvis on the left ? just imagine . We spent 2.5 million on milijas who has been a big disapointment in my book , he looks lightweight and unfit every game i see him . get behind the boys , wolves ay we !

Was it not Wolves who broke the British transfer record by paying £1.5 million for Andy Gray over 30 years ago?
