Baggies chasing Cameroon striker Pierre Webo

Albion are keeping tabs on Cameroon World Cup striker Pierre Webo as they weigh up possible additions to their Premier League forward line.

The 28-year-old, who impressed against the Baggies in a friendly two years ago, is on the club’s list of possible targets for the new season.

The Real Mallorca forward, who is currently in South Africa leading the line for his country, has spent the last seven years in the Spanish top-flight.

He is currently on Albion’s summer ‘watchlist’ as they consider their options for their return to the top flight.

But reports that a £2.5m deal has been agreed with Mallorca to sign the 5ft 11ins centre-forward are wide of the mark.

Albion are on the lookout for at least one striker to add firepower to Roberto Di Matteo’s attempt to keep them in the Premier League.

Stoke striker James Beattie is also on their list of possible targets and they have lodged an interest with the former England man.

Webo is another option, having fallen down the pecking order at Mallorca in the last two seasons.

The Baggies have already launched one successful raid on Spain this season to land Atletico Madrid centre-back Pablo Ibanez on a free transfer.

No chance of happening JP would actually have to spend some money! Come on Albion I want you to stay up for lots of derbies for years to come. James Beattie will just disrupt things get some premier league players in.

Hello anybody there. Come on Albion. Them up the road making us look silly
They have just got hunt £3m and were looking for frees. What is the point of going up. I’m not asking u to brake the bank but were going down with the team we got. Where the goals coming from. We need a right back. We have one goal keeper.

Yes, we want to be like Wolves and pay over the odds for players all from Relegated Teams.

I would really swap our Spanish International defender for the one they had from ‘tight at the back’ Hull City.

Only the Dings are signing anyone. The rest of the premiership are waiting for quality additions.

I really would’nt worry about the Wolves as their star 9 goal striker will be gone soon anyway, as for Hunt I would’nt want him down the Albion.
Agreed though we should start digging into our pockets although African players spent too much time away so I would look else where.

    4 – spot on
2- A very poor attempt at a supposed albion log in where you must be a dingle wum
1- Whats it got to do with you? But if you wanna go there – then you need to make more signings than us because your squad will not be good enough in a better quality prem next year and we already have a better squad then you in at least 2 out of 4 area’s!!
You need Hunt and possibly Gdaw for your normal 9-0-1 formation!

Back to the albion. Beattie is our man not sure if we cant do better than webo – 4/5 signings still needed but plenty of time.

The summer is young, let’s see how it all shakes out before we start jumping to conclusions.

I’d actually be more concerned if we’d signed the players Wolves have, bearing in mind they all got relegated with their respective teams last season. It didn’t look like anyone else was in for them either, so Wolves were effectively bidding against themselves. Good job boys.

In my opinion, we’re maybe 3 players away from a very competitive Premiership side (2 more defenders and a quality striker). Midfield looks good especially if you play Jara in the middle.

JP, DA and RDM know exactly what they’re doing.

Keep the faith and roll on August 14.

I am surprised at the posts on here. Ypu all seem more concerned about what we have done rather than what WBA have been doing.
I want you to stay up as it makes for good derbies with all of the west midlands sides in prem
Whether you will depends on your signings and it is very difficult to get anyone to sign for a club newly promoted. Especially one that has the habit of going down at the first attempt. My worry for you guys is whether MrP has the appetite to spend.
For my part the wolves signings do show ambition and have been made on a sensible financial footing. I alsao happen to think that Hunt and Fletcher were two of the best players in the mini league ( 10th down)
Wolves fans are happy and I hope you guys will be too!!

I hope the Webo story is untrue. Why would we want a striker who has scored just 16 goals in 79 appearances for Mallorca. We should be going for Semih Senturk who is out of contract at Fenerbache and John Carew from the vile. The vile are going to bring strikers in and Carew could be surplus.I know it would be hard to attract Carew, but if we show some ambition you never know.BOING BOING BAGGIES!

With the signings you’ve made you’ll soon be on a
declivity. Don’t say you haven’t been warned.
By the way we know what we are doing, have you been watching the world cup, it may give you some idea. Proves Hunt,Fletcher,Van damn and koko will
wear any old strip, who is the maker again.
Difficult to get anyone to sign for a newly promoted club you say!. Not if your name is

    12. In all honesty old gold, most posts on here who are “more concerned with what wolves are doing” are so because they are Wolves supporters masquerading as Albion fans – see No.2, he’s fooling no-one but himself. Posts like his get largely ignored as we all know his tiresome predictable game, but if it gives them a little enjoyment, let them have their little fun. Good luck to your lot with your Hunt signing, hope he works out for you, but most Albion fans who have posted about Hunt on here before didn’t want him, we are already over-flowing with midfielders and the lad is still recovering from a long term injury anyway – bit of a gamble? Fletcher don’t look a bad signing though, no one should be panicking about lack of signings – we’re not even out of June yet and theres a World Cup going on!

Iam sure Jeremy Peace and Dan Ashworth are
working round the clock to bring in this top
quality striker we need,if not then Iam quite
happy to go with the squad Roberto Di Matteo
already has.If Wolves want to panic buy with dross like Flether and Hunt then thats thier
problem,Jeremy Peace always looks for bargains
    at the end of July.
Ive been drawing up some starting 11`s we could play away at Chelsea and Ive gone with
    a sort of wing-back system.

Carson, don’t know why but I think will come good.
Not sure on r new centre back but only a handful of games in the last two years. I’m happy with tamas. Olson needs to calm down. Dorrans class but if he does make the step up how long will he be at the Albion.
I’ll have a bet with anyone that no Albion forward at the club now will get more than 6. So where r the goals coming from.

Got to say your posts are great fun to read on here and also on Wolves site!!
I really hope WBA stay up as the games are something else. Always have been and always will be
My cousin played for WBA in goal for best part of 10 years in the golden era of the 80′s
He actually left Wolves for them and being from Bilston got equal amount of stick from both sides
Good banter and I don’t really think you want Wolves to get relegated!!!
Our signings have been very promising this year and I think with the experience that has been gained we are in a decent position

    28. Terry, if we can go to Molineux and we are safe, I will enjoy the day whatever the outcome.

I am getting frustrated at JP. We have once again signed no premier league quality. Stevie Reid although a tryer couldnt get in at Blackburn by all accounts. He will try to do things on the cheap and it just wont work. We have a big gap to fill to get near to Newcastle never mind anyone else. Lets see some ambition and positive work by the club.

Jaimer – I undertstand your frustration with JP but lets look at Pompey, Hull etc. He will always do things as cheap as possible but we will never be in serious debt.

I think we are a fair few signings short on quality but he wouldnt have to break the bank to bring in some further experience such as Beattie, Robbie Blake, Boaz Myhill, Liam Lawrence, Ben Watson.

I think Wolves fans are getting a little bit
cocky cause when you look at what thier starting line up could be for next season it still
    looks like a Championship team.
HOW MANY OF THESE WOULD GET IN ALBIONS 11:

    Hahnemann.
    Zubar.Craddock.Mouyokolo.Van Damme.
    Kightly.Guedioura.Henry.Hunt/Jones.Jarvis.
    Doyle.

I`d have Hahnemann + Doyle and thats it,
Iam sure Wolves fans would love a midfeild of
    BRUNT/MULUMBU/DORRANS/MORRISON/BARNES.
