Kevin Phillips signs new Birmingham City deal
Saturday 19th June 2010, 11:29AM BST.
Kevin Phillips has penned a new one-year contract with Birmingham City to end speculation on his future.
The 36-year-old had been linked with a move after Alex McLeish’s much publicised desire to sign a new striker.
Boss McLeish missed out on Palmero hitman Fabrizio Miccoli this week but Phillips has committed to St Andrew’s, much to his delight.
“There can be no doubting Kev’s goal-scoring prowess, which is something he’s had throughout his career,” said McLeish.
“Some people may ask why we’ve retained the services of a 36-year-old but he plays with his head. He’s got an instinct that means that more often than not he’s in the right place at the right time. He’s a natural born finisher.”
