Andy Keogh could be Barnsley bound

Wolves striker Andy Keogh could be on the brink of a £1million move back to the Championship with Barnsley.

Reports in south Yorkshire suggest the 24-year-old was shown around Oakwell last weekend, just days after Wolves boss Mick McCarthy said the player may prefer to move in search of regular football rather than fall down the pecking order at Molineux.

It is understood McCarthy needs to move on two strikers this summer in addition to the £500,000 sale of Chris Iwelumo to Burnley, to offset the arrival of £6.5million Steven Fletcher from Turf Moor

And the seven-figure sale of Keogh – along with probably Stefan Maierhofer – would help balance the books.

The striker would relish the double prospect of regular football and a return to Yorkshire, although it’s believed the Republic of Ireland international would have been tempted by a second stint at Leeds after their promotion back to the Championship.

Keogh started his career at Elland Road before joining Scunthorpe, from where he signed for Wolves in January 2007 in a move that eventually netted the Iron £800,000.

The blond-haired forward even had the distinction of scoring Wolves’ first Premier League away winner at Wigan last August.

But it was a rare personal highlight and his only goal in a campaign blighted by a three-month absence with an ankle injury, the last of 23 in 125 in all competitions for Wolves.

1 Million? seems very cheap for a talented hard working player who did well when he played last season. Balance the books? Srely we still have plenty to spend without having to sell, spent less than £20 mil last year, about £11 mil so we should have another £20-25 mil to spend no bother.

    I LIKE KEOGH

I THINK THIS IS A SHAME. THERE ARE OTHER PLAYERS WHO WILL sCORE GOALS IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP WHO WE shOULD GET RID OF anD WHO WiLL FETCH MORE MONEY, NAMING NO NAMES. I THINK KEOGH LOOKED LIVELY AND CONFIDENT IN THE FEW PREM GAMES HE DID PLAY. HIS SPEED AND ENERGY WAS BRILLIANT AND I WOULD LIKE TO SEE him ON THE BENCH TO BRING ON WHEN OPPOSITION DEFENDERS ARE FEELING TIRED. KEEP KEOGH!

Shame really, always liked Keogh as a player even thought he could drive us up the wall at times. But unfortunatley if we want to stay in this league, we need proven strikers. Best of luck to him and will never forget Derby away. KEOGH, KEOGH, KEOGH

Good luck Andy (if true). I reckon given the right club and circumstance you’ll be a very good player. Maybe not the 20 goal a season man but very effective around the box with the right foil. Thanks for your efforts here and hope all goes wel for you.

It will be a shame if he goes, I think he still has something to offer, AND I named my cat after him.

Good luck Andy. So Mad Mick and Moxey have made a profit on the player,,, they are bonkers aren’t they? ANOTHER bit of good transfer business. Well done

It just shows the weakness of our squad when ”named” players are leaving us for teams who will not figure in the Championship promotion race next season.
    Teams like Barnsley and Doncaster.

Good luck to the lad. Championship is the right level. Could never fault his enthusiasm and effort, but never scored enough for a striker. If he had the keeper to beat, you never felt confident.

Yes £1 million for Keogh looks like very good business for us, I would snap Barsley’s hand off. Now for a CB, CM and winger. O’Hara and Eagles should definitely be two of our targets.

    thank christ for that.

Over-rated by stupid football fans who assume that running a lot means you can cut it in the big league

I understand the need to balance the books etc, but part of me wants to keep the player. Considering what he has actually achieved, which is a lot more than people will given him credit for, a slight profit is hardly great business and is not exactly going to stretch too far. When fit, I think he could have played on either flank, or just behind a Doyle or Fletch in the absence of either. I think he is a clever player with a good touch a lungs. I don’t think he will ever score 20 goals in a season but I would like to have kept him around for maybe a year.
If both go we have four strikers which would suggest he believes Vokes and Blakey from On The Buses are adequate replacements in the event one or both of are main two are out. I still say a squad needs 5 strikers.

Too slow, too indicisive, lightweight, can’t tackle, can’t head a ball that well either, doesn’t score anywhere near enough goals even at Championship level. Nothing against him but don’t rate him one bit and for 1 million pounds i would drive him up there immediately.

Great business making a profit from him.

He is nowhere near his best. He could do well for us. He upsets defences and makes goals but it is such a shame he cannot finish.

    I want him to stay.

I felt he should have had Foley’s place last season as keogh can defend and is more likely to have a crack at goal.

Not his biggest fan but hope all goes well for him in the future! Has anybody thought that with keogh and hoff both going that its more than likely doyle with still be here next season? Regarding midfielders, Weiss looked very good for slovakia today and he had prem experience last year at bolton, i think would be great signing! UTW
