Albion ‘no’ to offer for Borja Valero
Saturday 12th June 2010, 11:30AM BST.
Albion have rejected an offer from Sevilla for Borja Valero after the Spaniards finally made their move for the Baggies’ record signing.
Hawthorns officials were today awaiting Sevilla’s next move after they turned down the La Liga outfit’s opening bid for the midfielder last night.
The value of the offer has not been disclosed but Albion are keen to at least recoup the £4.7m they paid Mallorca to sign Valero two years ago.
Sporting and technical director Dan Ashworth said: “There have been lots of rumours in the media over the past few weeks about Sevilla being interested in Borja but the bid they tabled last night was the first we have received from them.
“It was rejected out of hand as it was nowhere near what we would regard as an acceptable offer.
“Borja enjoyed an outstanding season in Spain and we have just been promoted to the top flight.
“If we do not receive a satisfactory offer for Borja, we are more than happy for him to rejoin us for pre-season training in three weeks’ time and be a part of our Premier League squad.”
A move taking the 25-year-old back to Spain still looks likely with Sevilla expected to return with an improved offer in the next few days.
But the Baggies have made it clear they will not budge on their valuation of the player and head coach Roberto Di Matteo has refused to rule out Valero returning to his team.
Valero spent a successful season back with Mallorca on loan from The Hawthorns last season but Mallorca could not afford to make his signing permanent for the pre-agreed option price of £3.5m.

Sevilla, you might as well pay up if you REALLY want him. You’re wasting your time and ours playing hardball with our gaffer.

Now let’s see if the London biased national media crucify Green like they did Scott Carson. My bet is no.

If Sevilla think it will be easy to get a cheap bargain from this English West Bromwich club, they obviously haven’t done their homework on Chairman Peace.Knowing Albion, the Spaniards will either go back empty handed,or will end up paying more for Valero than he’s actually worth. You don’t mess with JP.
