Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Mick McCarthy planning more Wolves transfer swoops
Saturday 5th June 2010, 10:41AM BST.
Wolves are planning to stay on the front foot in the summer transfer market after completing two deals this week.
The club believes the swoop for Scottish international Steve Fletcher, just 48 hours after Belgian defender Jelle Van Damme arrived, caught rival clubs napping.
And manager Mick McCarthy suggests more deals are in the pipeline as the club looks to get as much business done as swiftly as possible.
Wolves are already being heavily linked with Portsmouth’s South Africa defender Aaron Mokoena and McCarthy said: “We’ve got a budget which we work to here.
“It’s something that myself, Jez and Steve sat down and spoke about and said we were going to spend in the best way that we could to improve the team.
“I think we’ve already done that with Jelle and Steven and we’ll continue to look. We did it last year with getting Doyler signed up early when he was the primary target. We’d been trying to do Jelle for quite a well and now Steven. It makes us a better squad already with two very good players.
“I’m really pleased to have got two done as early as we have done like we did last year. But we’re still looking for more and still looking to improve.”
Chief Executive Jez Moxey believes it was the speed at which Wolves were prepared to do business on Fletcher which caught the clubs with whom they are competing in the summer market – in this case Blackburn Rovers – napping.
That enabled Wolves to steal a march and make a convincing first pitch to the Scottish international which paid off and Moxey hopes to repeat the process before the World Cup inflates the market.
And McCarthy will continue to put personality ahead of price adding: “The money side of it doesn’t bother me. It’s the player, the personality and the character that he is.
“Steven will fit in here perfectly and I’m delighted to have signed him. It doesn’t appear that there has been too much cash knocking about.”

We need to concentrate on the defence as we all know cradock aint getting any younger and berra well he aint good enough for the prem, and if they sell doyler i wont set foot in the wolves ground again.

Great news for all Wolves fans that the club has not stopped trying to bring in players to make the squad stronger, exactly what is needed.
Van Damme and Fletcher are great buys and hopefully a midfielder in the mould of Ince/Rae plus a quality defender are still being scouted.
I have said this before but Steven Taylor of Newcastle is the defender we should go for. He may cost around £8M but if we are serious about keeping our PL place then we must buy quality players and they in turn cost reasonably big money. £8M would break our transfer record again but sometimes these things have to happen.
Taylor had a big bust-up with Andy Carroll last season and was reported as saying if Carroll stays he will leave. Well it looks like Carroll is staying, so will Taylor leave?
If he will, we should get in there and do a deal. He could of course say no but what would we lose by asking?

Patrick Viera next, team leader and very influential. He would be the start of greatness. The would respond to having such a legend in the dressing room.

Keep it up Mick. It makes fantastic sense to buy players based on their personality as well as their ability. So many teams have wasted big money on players who havent fit in with the mentality of the team. Take Man city for example, who spent millions on Robinho, who is no doubt a fantastic player, but couldnt adapt to the ethos of the rest of the squad. Lets hope this method pays off for wolves and we see the benefits of it in the coming seasons.

Wolves policy of a step by step approach gradually improving the playing squad, is in my opinion the correct policy for a club of this size.
If you take a 12 month view of the signings, we have added Doyle, Hahnneman and Zubar which have been successful. Now we have added two more quality players.
On top of that, we witnessed some of our existing players from the Championship improving and growing in confidence last season.
There will always be some signings which are less successful. That applies to any club, and they will no doubt be shipped out.

COME ON YOU WOLVES !!!!
2 more GREAT signing’s

Patrick Viera, I like the idea of him coming to wolves. Born leader and influential in the dressing room. The players would respond to having such a player and big name playing alongside them.

I love it when a plan comes together….. okay, there’s a few more peices to put into place, but, we’ve had our first season in The Premiership and learned a lot from our survival. Now it appears we are preparing to move up a gear and consolidate our place in the top division. Two good signings that have clearly been worked upon and more to follow. The replacement for Jody, I suppose has to be the prioirty.
Meanwhile , if you want a giggle, look at the Tesco posts. They are so full of boastful claptrap about what they are going to do to Wolves in a league they’ve never been able to handle. I put it down to nerves. Still they have strengthened the team that went down with a Spanish bench warmer.

Mr. Morgan if you read this I would like to say a big THANKYOU! Given time and a little patience I truly believe we can become an established Prem Club and who knows after that? The players we are bringing in now we could only have dreamt about four seasons ago. Well done.

lets hope this 2 signing are first of many and we do catch other teams napping like mm says

with a new striker in and a left back the problems have been solved
we could still do with a right winger which is where guediora or mujangi bia will play
so that leaves a centre back and creative midfielder

I would be happy with just these two signings as long as we keep most of last years 11 team regulars. It is great to see intelligent planning and gradual improvements on and off the field.

A great start to our transfer business.
Hunt and Sidwell would be another 2 I would try and tie down.
On another point, where the heck is Michael Kightly? I never heard any updates on him…….

Wolfhedd: Exactly! Mick instilled this from the start and thats why we won the championship. The group huddle on the pitch… knowing that Wolves would never stop running untill the final whistle… Fans thinking opposition had to score at least 2 more than us to have a hope of winning..
Far different to the days of the mercenaries who wouldnt even make the effort to chase a ball
Thats what got us through the barren spell in the championship and thats what kept us in the Premier League. The team (spirit) being greater than the sum of its parts.
Go Mick!

Great signings and so refreshing to see that we are being so active so soon after the end of the season and not resting on our prem survival laurels. Good stuff!! Prove me wrong Moxey, please – I’m still not convinced about you but this is certainly a turn in the right direction. Couple more please and we could be climbing the Prem ladder to where we belong!!
Come on you Wolves!!

Good to see the ambition we have. We’ve signed two very good players IMO and if we can just get a right-winger (Liam Lawrence) and a top quality centre-back such as Phil Jagielka for £6m then we’d be well on our way.
Don’t see why people think we need another midfielder. We’ve got five good midfielders now in Guedioura, Milijas, Jones, Henry and Edwards and have cover from other players. So the two more signings should do it.

Great signings and I’d be more than happy to see Fletchers old team mate Chris Eagles come to Molineux, would be much better than Hunt!

I am really pleased to read our message boards and not have negative comments.
These two players are superb and another two would be brilliant.

Agree with you there. Eagles is less injury prone than Hunt, is younger and is a more dymanic player. O’Hara would be great as well but just can’t see it happening.

Yes well done,I have a feeling Joe Ledley could be on the Radar,Stoke are also interested 3 million is the figure being mentioned,I think thats well within budget and worth a gamble considering he’s not proven in the Prem.Anyone with any news on Michael Kightly ????I am a little concerned as no news on his recovery at all???are things going wrong??.Hope he makes a good recovery as he I feel would be our ‘best’ new signing this year,we missed him a lot.Up the Wolves.

24 – im hoping the lack of news is just because things are going to plan in his recovery. I do agree with you that he could be one of our better players next season, and with the addition of another winger, we could have a good bit of competition between Jarvis, Kightly, and whoever comes in.
