No Sevilla bid for Albion’s Borja Valero

Albion are still awaiting a bid from Sevilla for record signing Borja Valero despite the Spanish club going public with their interest in the midfielder.

Sevilla assistant boss Luis Tevenet upped the stakes in the discussions over Valero’s future by admitting an interest on the club’s official website.

But the Baggies have still not had any official contact, despite the midfielder setting his heart on remaining in his homeland.

Valero still appears likely to leave before the start of next season, after reportedly agreeing a four-year deal with Champions League new-boys Sevilla.

They have made the 25-year-old their top transfer target after they beat the Real Mallorca side he spent last season on loan with to fourth spot in the league.

But the Baggies will not be happy with the comments of Tevenet on the Sevilla website.

Hawthorns officials are aware of the Spaniards’ interest but have not received any bids.

The assistant boss said: “People know we like him. He is willing to come to Seville but we all know that negotiations are long, there is a club and the player and there will be other clubs who also want him and that’s where it gets complicated.

“But I am sure that ultimately the willingness of the player, who has already said it is willing to come to Sevilla, will influence things a lot.”

Valero spent a successful campaign last season on loan with Mallorca, the club he left to join the Baggies in a £4.7million deal in 2008.
