Mulumbu hails Albion management

Albion midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu has hailed the club’s coaching team as the inspiration behind his cult status at the Hawthorns.
The DR Congo international enjoyed an impressive first full season with the Baggies, filling the holding midfield role as they won promotion back to the Premier League.
And Mulumbu, who was signed by ex-boss Tony Mowbray for £175,000 from Paris Saint Germain last year, is grateful to his successor, Roberto Di Matteo, for making him an integral part of the team.
He said: “The gaffer didn’t know me and I had to show him what I could do. I had to find my place in the squad. He is a good coach and I’m lucky because he used to play in the same position as me.
“We have spoken a lot and he helped me a lot. He has been very good for me and the team.”
Mulumbu offered dogged protection to the Baggies back four last season as they set a new club record by reaching 91 points in the Championship.
And the popular midfield man believes Di Matteo’s methods will also serve the club well in the top flight.
The 23-year-old has also paid tribute to Eddie Newton, believing the assistant head coach has been a key figure in his own performances.
He said: “Eddie Newton also played in the same position as me and I talk to him a lot. It’s very, very good for me.
“I will work hard after training again to get better.”
