Meite left out of Ivory Coast squad

Albion defender Abdoulaye Meite has been surprisingly left out of the Ivory Coast squad for the World Cup.

The centre-back was a squad member throughout his country’s qualifying campaign and figured in the winter’s African Cup of Nations.

But Meite was not included by coach Sven Goran Eriksson today in the final 23-man party to travel to South Africa.

It means the Baggies, who looked set to have five men at the World Cup, will now have three having already released Slovenia captain Robert Koren.

Gonzalo Jara is in the Chile squad, Chris Wood is with New Zealand and Marek Cech is in the Slovakia party.
