Iwelumo leaves Wolves for Burnley
Tuesday 1st June 2010, 4:15PM BST.
Wolves striker Chris Iwelumo has ended his time at Molineux by completing a £500,000 move to Burnley.
The 31-year-old has joined the Turf Moor outfit on a two-year deal, which will see him head up their push for an immediate return to the Premier League from the Championship next season.
It remains to be seen whether the clubs will go on to complete an exchange of strikers, with Wolves known to be working on a deal to bring Scotland international Steven Fletcher to Molineux for around £7million.
But Iwelumo’s two year stay was highlighted by his contribution to the Championship-winning season, with 16 goals from 35 appearances.
After that, injuries took their toll with the Scottish international suffering knee ligament damage following a Lee Carsley challenge in a vital promotion match at Birmingham in April 2009.
Then having fought his way back from that, his Premier League campaign was effectively wrecked by a broken metatarsal suffered in pre-season training.
His appearances were fleeting after that triggering a month-long loan at Bristol City, before returning to see out the Premier League survival campaign with seven appearances off the bench.
