Walsall dismiss Jamie Cureton link

Walsall boss Chris Hutchings has dismissed speculation linking the club with free agent Jamie Cureton and insisted the striker is not on his hit-list.

The released Norwich forward, available on a free transfer, was interested in a switch to the Banks’s Stadium.

Cureton claimed his agent had offered him to the Saddlers but boss Hutchings categorically rejected suggestions the 34-year-old is on his summer wish-list.

The manager said: “I don’t know where it’s come from, it’s not come from me.

“He could be putting that in the paper, I haven’t spoken to Jamie Cureton or his agent.

“He’s not on my list, no.”

The Saddlers boss may not even sign another striker, as other positions could become a priority depending on which of the eight out-of-contract players stay at the club.

He said: “I could go for another striker but you have to prioritise and see what’s available. There might be something in another position we have to go for, as much as I’d like another striker.

“We have to wait and see how things develop.”

Darren Byfield and Troy Deeney are tied to the Saddlers next season and the manager is waiting on fellow frontmen Alex Nicholls and Will Grigg to commit to the club.

Hutchings expects 18-year-old Grigg to perform next season, after failing to make an appearance last campaign.

The Walsall boss said: “Will has come through and has to develop now. He can’t be just a substitute or a squad player, he’s got to look to put the lads under pressure.

“Byfield, Deeney and if Nicholls signs he’s another one Will must look to put under pressure.”

Hutchings has seen his squad for maintenance training this week and has been impressed with their efforts, just 20 days after the end of last season.

He said: “There’s a good turnout, most of the boys have been there and it’s been a good workout.

“We’re only working to 75 per cent, it’s not a do or die thing, it’s a maintenance week where they’re trying to tick over.

“They’ve had some time off, they’ve come back for this week and they’ll have another three or four weeks off before pre-season.”

“There’s a good turnout, most of the boys have been there and it’s been a good workout.”

Quite clear that a number will not be signing then.

“Hutchings expects 18-year-old Grigg to perform next season, after failing to make an appearance last campaign”

Well put him in the team then! how can he prgress when you don’t play him

“We have to wait and see how things develop.”
Short sighted … might wait before to see how things develop before I invest in my corporate box again!

    Give me strength

Great. No strikers on the list then. Wonder what his priorities are then? Midfield? Keeper? Defence? Needs to look at some of the Southampton and Norwich guys that have been released

At what point did he say he wouldnt sign a striker, rite now thats the position we;ve actually got players, if none of the midfielders sign new deals a striker should be the last thing on his mind, some of our fans just wana moan at anything, lets see who he actually brings in a judge him then, im not hutchings biggest fan by all means i was one calling for his head earler in the season, but people jumping the gun when all he;s said is his priorities lie in other psotions (which they should given the players we’ve actually got the for next season) is stupid.

Maybe Grigg would develop if you gave him a chance in the first team.

This is so funny as a wolves fan I don’t see the point of Walsall?? How depressing it must be for you few and I mean FEW to watch this utter rubbish every week ha ha.

You lot should have some pride and fold the club or merge with Stourbridge, they have a bigger fan base than yours!

MikeQB – what a pathetic excuse of a man. Wouldn’t want to lead your life if that’s all you can come up with.

No doubt you were the shirt, have some proud supporter badge in the car/caravan window, some naff tattoo and don’t even go to the Wolves.

You don’t see the point of Walsall, yet you spend some time reading and commenting on a story about them…

Depends if Deeney moves to another club, otherwise Troy and Darren are first choice next season no question.

Most of us don’t see the point in your town chuck, but I guess God was allowed to make the occasional error.

Apologies for the delay I have a job you see, no it’s a bit foreign to you lot.

To sum up yes I have a wolves shirt, and yes I go to the games. But no I don’t have a wolves sticker in my car window but I do have 2 wolves tattoo’s and they are very nice thank you.

My problem with you lot is this, you live in dream land where you think you should be up with wolves, WBA, Villa, Blues ect. But look at you…….. You have a bunch of players who are almost good enough to be Sunday league but Walsall pay slightly more.

All this is down to 1 of you your 11 fans. Who not so long back rang a local radio station to wish all wolves fans a happy anniversary. When questioned as to what she meant, she stated it’s been 9 years since Andy Rambo rammell scored the winner at molinuex!! is that it all your life spent following at footy team, and that’s it your greatest achievement!!

    Laughing stock simple as!

mikeQB-a bloke brought your team for a tenner it just showers how good your team is and think of all the money what you have wasted over the years and you still are a relegation team in the premiership. with all that money you’ve wasted, your in a worse position than us, your closer to administration than us. fair play that you stopped up but you will go down next season and you still remember that goal what rambo scored it was that good of a goal. oh and look forward to the albion taking 6 points off you. Shit team in a shitter town. you’ve got more chance of staying in the premiership than that nutter in the town who shouts his mouth about god has of convincing people.

Darlo, you would kill for a progressive chairman like morgan, and you would kill to have the heritage and history in the game that Wolves do. Walsalls hatred of Wolves is so irrational. You are a small team who are struggling to get along in division 1. You have no real rivals, no other midlands club really cares about you. Maybe you could start a rivalry with a club of a similar standing to you, Burton Albion maybe? And darlo, i do remember that rammel goal, but do you remember the two 3-0 thumpings we gave you in 2001-2002? or the two wins we got the following season? We could even go back to the 6-1 battering we gave you in the cup in 1888. Your a tinpot club going nowhere, get used to it.

If you go back to number 5 comment Mike QB nobody was even interested in wolves until this idiot commented on a jamie cureton story so to say you are irritated by us commenting on wolves is a joke.
why are wolves fans even reading walsall news if you think we are a tinpot club??????
why are you and Mike QB even reading this???
We may be a small team but check out the rest of league 1 and 2 attendances!!!! There must be no point to the football league according to you lot.
like i said in my last comment you win nothing but promotion and we win nothing but promotion and relegation so there is no point in either clubs according to Mike QB
oh yeah and mike QB if our players are sunday league players they did well to finish 10th this season in league 1
Support your own team and take no notice of others.

I like to read about other teams. I am not irritated by walsall commenting on Wolves, i just find walsall`s irrational hatred of Wolves rather bizzare. We have probably met in all competitions around a dozen times, we have rarely been in the same division either.I cannot see where there is any kind of rivalry. I never said there was no point in walsall, but i dont see how you can argue about the fact that you are a tinpot outfit. You only ever seem to sign players on 1 year contracts so most decent players will give you a wide berth. Your attendances are understandbly falling, your owner has no interest either. Then we have idiot saying we only got sold for a tenner!! You could only dream of getting an owner like Morgan. Like it or not, you are not an attactive proposition for anyone to buy, you would struggle to find an owner if you were available for nothing.

I refer to comment 5 Mike Qb no point to Walsall.
We do hope of getting a well off owner thats why we still beleive and support WFC and may be one day we will offer bigger wages and contracts thats why i agree with you about our owner haveing no interest.
And with regards to rivalry there is rivalry to all football teams especially all midland teams isnt that just normal football banter?
we will still continue to support our team its not saying we like all aspects of how the club runs.

Supporting a club is not about its success, if this was the case, allegiance would change with every loss. The whole of football would collapse if only the largest and most successful clubs supported. Most of the big clubs are boosted by this idiotic, childish basis of ‘support’…people with zero connection to a club supporting them due to ‘size & success’…babyish, to defeat that support on its own terms, just say you support the team that beats them.

Look carefully, with half an ounce of intelligence, you will see domestic footbal is REGIONAL…i.e. Towns and cities. Therefore, football support is supposed to be like a TRIBAL warfare or RESIDENTIAL.

The only reason to support a club is residence or a history connected with the club. You want your TRIBE to win, but if they don’t they are still your tribe. However, you can have connections with a few places….e.g. having parents from different places and living in another place. Also this TRIBALISM is weakened by TRANSFERS…as players mostly don’t have this tribal allegiance….they go where the money is.

Boards also don’t have it (or often don’t) and managers don’t have it, they are with you today gone soon after.

In reality then the only thing that keeps a club alive is the concept of TRIBALISM maintained by the supporters. AND the establishment of the club facilities and administration in the REGION of the TRIBE.

If it was a condition that a player/manager/owner would have some connection with the town/city to work for them. Things might become more interesting and more tribalistic and more even.

Or we can keep with this nonsense of teams playing each other who have nothing to do with their towns etc. However, I guess the players do in general become temporary residents of the towns which they play for.

Or lets have teams established not on region at all but by their workplace….Asda, Tescos, Lidl, Aldi, Sainsburys….Virgin Airways, British Airways, Ryan Air.

Or Religious…Protestants, Catholics, Atheists, Agnostics, Buddhists, Jews, Muslims, Jehovahs Witnesses, Taoists, Hindus, Sikhs, Scientologists, Mormons, Methodists, Wiccans, Zoroastrians…etc These might make for much more zealous clashes and maybe better quality hooliganism that might lead to full scale all out all against all civil war.

Or we could have women teams versus men teams to see if women really are equal in ability as is claimed. But with only two teams plus possible hermaphrodites….a third gender team, only three teams would make the league a bit repetitive…like Scottish…play each other ten times a year league.

We need a large campaign against all those fools who walk around with football shirts on when they have ZERO connection to the geographical location of those clubs. ‘That shirt says MANCHESTER…what have you got to do with manchester?

I remember when Manchester City played Man Utd. this season…was 3-4 or something….they interviewed some ‘supporters’ after the match…the first man utd. supporter was SCOTTISH the second was a LONDONER or HOME COUNTIES SOUTHENER the third was IRISH! Expect all of them having zero connection with manchester….(unless you include the dumb ‘my father supported them also while having zero connection with them’) They then interviewed the Man City supporters….all of them manchester accents. But I expect now with the Arab money behind Man City, we will have waves of young idiot ‘supporters’ with zero connection. This is like the phenomena of chelsea shirts popping up everywhere on little chav kids with zero connection…after the Russian money catapulted them to success.

The most enjoyable thing in football is NOT your tribe winning. Its when a team/tribe whom you HATE for whatever political, ideological, religious or tribal reasons…loses. e.g. Manchester Utd 0 Small whoever club 3, Tottenham 0 Whatever small club 2, Chelsea 0 Whichever club 4, Liverpool 0 Anyclub not particularly hated 5.

This of course works in other spheres of life too, not just sport. Let us enjoy when our atred is satiated…ANGER, ANGER, BITE WITH JOY!
