Pablo Ibanez at Albion for medical
Wednesday 26th May 2010, 2:30PM BST.
Spain international Pablo Ibanez was flying into England for a medical at Albion.
Reports from Spain claim the 28-year-old central defender is due in the Midlands later today for tests ahead of a possible move to the Hawthorns.
Albion have not yet concluded a deal with Ibanez and have other possible targets in central defence, but news of an impending medical suggest negotiations are progressing well.
Ibanez, who has 23 caps for his country and was a regular starter in the 2006 World Cup, is a free agent with his contract at Atletico Madrid due to expire next month.
The Baggies are believed to be discussing a three-year contract with the former Albacete man.

Would be a great signing if this pans out, Pablo is a classy centre back not afraid to stick his boot in and get in the thick of things but also able to carry the ball and play his way out of defence. Not bad for an atlético.

Top signing, always rated him!

Pablow has the breeding lets hope his legs are still good as the Prem sorts out slow or bad players.
We have a great Medical Team at West Brom (they have proved that on many occassions) but do we need a player who has fail a medical for a club in a league not as good as the Prem. I think not but our club knows the player well by now.

His record certainly looks good – and if he does sign then a back four from Ibanez, Ollson, Tamas, Jara, Cech,Zuvi and maybe Reid should give us some depth – hopefully this means Barnett & Meite will move on and leave Mattock fighting for a game – all great competition.
Also With Mulumbu holding in midfield we look a different proposition from previous seasons in the prem.

Happy – you reckon Zuvi is good enough? He showed some promise at the beginning of last season but then went seriously sour. That leaves us with Cech, Olsson, Ibanez and Jara across the back with Mulumbu in midfield.
But with only Tamas providing cover if, as you rightly say, Meite and Barnett are moved on. Still need a striker, left back, right back and a keeper. I’d love to keep Valero, but as other people have pointed out, this might be the best time to cash in and avoid the risk of confirming that he simply isn’t suited to the English Premier League, no matter how great a season he’s had in Spain.

Over on the dark side the natives are restless about the hold up in signing Van Damme. It seems Anderlecht are trifling about the price of Jelle.
I know, it’s the lamest joke ever but it leads me on to my real question.
On the picture accompanying that article. Who is the Baggies player he is trying to tackle? It looks like Don Goodman twenty years too late.

6. I think you wil find that Tamas and Ibanez will be first choice.
Olsson will be the back up for me??, do you really think he will leave his own signng out of the side??.
The only thing that worries me is that Jonas will be disruptive if he is out of the team.

Connor – I think zuivi has shown previously that he is a decent player but I think is suffering from lack of confidence.
I don’t think he will be first choice RB with Jara and even Tamas able to play there – and also Reid if he signs – but I still think he is worth keeping.
Also not sure I would split Ollson & Tamas as they have proven to work well together – its gonna be interesting to see who gets the nod.
Not sure we need any more right backs as we have players who can slot into more than one position.
I also think we need a keeper only for back up.

i would like to see zuvi play an attacking midfield role as i feel he has the pace and power to go past players
his defending lets him down but he does get into some promising positions going forward and could be useful i would not be in any rush to get rid of him just yet but meite and barnett for me can go as they are not good enough.

just read that Reid has signed which is great news – I thought he did really well last season.
Connor – this could see Zuivi getting moved on now as I think we are well covered at RB – and could also cover for Mulumbu as the holding midfielder…… a clever signing as he gives us a few options.

I’m surprised but happy that we are trying to sign higher league players rather than the usual lower range.
Reid is a good addition and am glad he saw sense and chose not to play for Celtic.

I think Ibanez would be a great signing. I still we think we need a quality left back and striker. I’m assuming Jara is going to play right back.
With regard to Reid, don’t you think that after telling Celtic he was going to sign for us and in order to protect credibility with their own fans they threw out the failed medical story. Reid was up there last week, it doesn’t take that long to look at the results of a medical. Usually players sign the day of their medical. I think it’s all a big cover up on Celtic’s part.
In all honesty, I’m yet to be fully convinced by Reid, but he was playing out of position at right back. I do however, have total faith in JP, RDM and the medical team at the Albion.

Bid for two players, ( Tamas, REID )signed two players. Full house up to yet, dingles. Now we need a couple of strikers and a goalkeeper to keep
Carson on his toes as we have a centre-back being lined up. Things are looking ” BOSTIN “.
Aren’t we fortunate to have JEREMY PEACE on our side.

13. Reid did choose to play for Celtic but he failed the medical. You have a medical at the club as the last task before you sign. He choose Celtic but the medical is done very differently at each club, we have Barnes and Thomas who’s inury records are poor but obviously our medical staff are very good.
I hope Ibanez comes through, apparently reads the game very well but lacks pace and hasnt had much match practice.

Very interesting post on Wolves site. Article headed ‘Van Damme Move Held Up’
No 46 John. who seems to be a fairly sensible Wulfie, his second paragraph sums up what Wolves need and it could have been one of us saying what we’ve got. Spooky.

I think Reid is a great signing for us, always gives his all & lets hope Ibanez comes next. Very happy & positive baggie

16Baggieman. I find it hard to believe that all the negotiations between club and player go on BEFORE the medical. That’s like settling the price on a second hand car, driving it around and then finding it hasn’t got an MOT because the body’s knackered. Hardly likely.

Sir Terence, there is going to be a limit of 25 players in the squad so it’s no good having number 69 on the back of your shirt. And you can’t be a Knight every night.

22. That is how transfer policy works, its player power. They will not undergo a medical until a transfer fee and personal terms are agreed.
He wanted to go to Celtic and for one reason or another on their medical he failed. We are his 2nd choice but who cares? his experience will be priceless to us.
Come on JP lets get Beattie, Benitez on loan and Matthew Upson

What has happened to Davenport is he still using the Clubs expenses for training is he signing also a prudent signing like Peace said he would rather use money on Wages than transfers and hope Ibanez arrives as well now just another 5 signings needed at least 1 striker a goalie to challenge Carson a left and right back and a winger and then i think we have a very good chance of staying up this time Boing Boing

Reid will give us stability at the back, and hopefully good signing for the defence of the spaniard. Our next target must be a top class striker and a good class goal keeper as we need to keep the goals out as well as put them in the net next few weeks will be interesting.
“Come on you Baggies” we must match our Midland Rivels Next Season.
