Albion sign Steven Reid for two years

Albion have signed loan star Steven Reid on a two-year deal after the utility man reportedly failed a medical at Celtic.

Reid will join on July 1, with the Baggies keen to sign the former Republic of Ireland international ever since his successful spell at the end of last season.

Reports from Scotland claim the released Blackburn player had failed a medical at Parkhead, after being offered the chance to join the Bhoys’ Scottish Premier League challenge.

But Albion’s position remained unchanged and negotiations with the 29-year-old have now been drawn to a successful close.

Hawthorns officials had held positive talks with Reid since the end of the season, which ended with the former Millwall youngster impressing on loan for Roberto Di Matteo’s men at right-back.

Celtic’s surprise interest created a fresh twist in the story, with Reid travelling to Glasgow for talks and a tour of the club’s stadium and training facilities.

But Albion always remained confident that they could compete with the Old Firm giants in terms of wages and personal terms, as well as offering Reid the chance to prove himself again at Premier League level.

Why do we want to sign him, ok he was decent in the championship but how are we going to compete with this type of championship player.

    Joey barton maybe?

if he’s not FIT enough for celtic then he is not FIT enough for us, plus if he has been up to celtic and held talks and this problem was the only thing stopping him from signing then we dont want him, if we were not his first choice then he can go somewhere else, we only want players that really want to come and play for us, we have had enough mercenaries before, Townsend, Phelan etc.

    2 klunk.

1 Paul Robinson failed a medical and the following season didn’t miss a game for us. I don’t think he missed a game through injury during the season just gone either. It’s got more to do with insurance than a players actual fitness. We have Jerome Thomas and Giles Barnes because other clubs wouldn’t take a risk. I’m willing to trust our medical team on this one.

2 If Glasgow Rangers had come in for Graham Dorrans when he signed for us there is little doubt he would have gone there. Should we not have signed him on the grounds that we weren’t his first choice?

Pablo Ibanez is a fine footballer when he is on form.

The lad just needs to rebuild his confidence after a turbulent two years in Madrid following a proposed transfer to Real Madrid when the presidential elections were on-going.

If he does sign, and it seems like a situation of when rather than if…then I would be worried if I were Jonas Olsson.

Read would be O.K. for a backup player. Go for Luke Young of VILLA.

Sorry BULLY, I never rated Robinson,( Having said that, I was brought up on D Howe, S and G williams
and the latter end of L Millard.) he never seemed to get back quick enough.

Why should Olsson be worried?. We will need all
central defenders in the comming season. Like we need more strike power.

Why would Reid have a medical at this early stage ??

I have no problem with the player talking to Celtic and looking at his options – but not sure we want him if he then chose Celtic.

Also I’m sure he will be subject to a medical here if we want him – how would he pass that ??

Need a bit more info before we can really comment.

    4,the real Bully,

In response to your two points i dont have a problem with reid not passing the medical at rangers or being fit enough to play as robbo did, it’s the fact that he came out at the end of the season stating he had started to really enjoy his football at the albion and he had some good games for us and seemed keen to stay, now another club comes in and it seems to be west brom WHO?, it just really annoys me with these fickle footballers who are basically following the £ signs and are not really interested in the football club,

with regards to Dorrans we cannot deal with If’s and But’s, if my aunty had a moustach she would have been my uncle, rangers did not come in for Dorrans so we cannot say whom he would have chosen, i just think we should sign players who WANT to play for us not players who want to play so they can have a few good games in a blue and white shirt and then hope some other club comes in and they are off, we need players with the desire to help us stay in the premier, which in it’s self will then benefit those players.
