Mark Little’s regret at Wolves exit

Freed Wolves defender Mark Little has admitted his regret at missing out on his Premier League dream with his boyhood heroes after signing for Peterborough.

The 21-year-old has signed a three-year contract at London Road, after making nine appearances on a three-month loan at the end of the season on the back of a 12-match spell at Chesterfield earlier on in the campaign.

A product of the Wolves academy and an England under-19s international, Little was part of the team who got to the FA Youth Cup semi-finals in 2005 with goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey beaten by a Southampton side containing Theo Walcott.

But hampered by injury, the right-back failed to build on his early promise, making only 32 appearances at Molineux, all but one of which came in 2006/07.

The former England under-19 international never appeared for Wolves after October 2007, his way blocked by Kevin Foley and more latterly, Richard Stearman and Ronald Zubar.

Little insisted it was an easy decision to come to Posh, despite his emotional attachment to Wolverhampton.

He said: “Professionally, it’s the right move but, emotionally, I’ve been at Wolves since I was 12.

“I’m a Wolves fan and I’d always wanted to be playing in the Premier League with Wolves.”

But Little is excited to be back in familiar surroundings, after not being offered a new deal at Wolves.

He said: “I’ve been here three months, know all the lads and love it, so I’m excited.”

Little’s appearances for Posh came while former Posh boss Jim Gannon was at the helm in the Championship.

But the defender did enough to impress new manager Gary Johnson and is looking forward to playing a big part in the club’s League One promotion push.

He said: “I’ve played in the centre, but I’ve always been a right-back and Gary sees me as playing on the right.

“Hopefully I can do well here and I’m really looking forward to getting more games.”
