Free agent Jamie Cureton has put Walsall on red alert after declaring his interest in a move to Walsall.

The veteran striker has been offered to the club after being released by League One champions Norwich and is keen on a switch to the Banks's Stadium.

Boss Chris Hutchings is looking to add more experience to his youthful squad and Cureton could fit the bill.

The 34-year-old reckons a move to the Saddlers would be ideal and would relish the chance to talk to the manager.

He said: "I'd be interested, definitely. They are a good club and I've always enjoyed playing there. It's the area I want to get to, because it's close to Bristol and my family are there.

"It appeals me and I'm waiting for the phone to ring.

"I've always enjoyed playing there, they play a good brand of football and I know Darren Byfield as well."

The forward would have to take a cut from his reported £5,000-a week wages at Norwich but his stock has fallen after two barren years in Norfolk.

Cureton was loaned out to League Two Shrewsbury at the end of last season, before being ditched by Canaries boss Paul Lambert.

The former England youth international voiced his disappointment while being left on the Carrow Road sidelines but, after scoring 204 career goals and listing Bristol Rovers, Swindon and QPR among his former clubs, is determined to prove his doubters wrong.

He said: "Your reputation takes a knock when things don't go well, so I want to show people they have made a mistake.

"I know what I can do, I still feel I can perform at a high level for a few more years but I've had a nightmare couple of years at Norwich.

"The first season was good, I was playing and I was top scorer but then in the last two seasons I had four managers and chopped and changed. It's been very up and down.

"But I haven't stopped training and I'm looking for a really big season next year."
