Wolves’ no to Dundee’s Garry Kenneth
Monday 24th May 2010, 10:30AM BST.
Wolves today moved swiftly to kill a story in Scotland claiming they were interested in Dundee United defender Garry Kenneth as they missed out on Aruna Dindane.
Newly-promoted Blackpool and one other top flight club, along with a Championship outfit, were thought to be chasing 6ft 3ins stopper Kenneth, who turns 23 next month.
Molineux boss Mick McCarthy watched Kenneth in an end of season goalless draw against Hearts.
But Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey insists Kenneth, who like Christophe Berra was given his club debut by Scotland boss Craig Levein, will not be moving to Molineux.
Moxey, who has also rubbished a link with £7m-rated Burnley striker Steven Fletcher, said: “Mick may well have watched him, but he was probably watching other players at the game.
“He’s not on our list of targets.”
Dindane has agreed a three-year deal with Qatar club Al Shorta, who are paying Lens £2.6million for the 29-year-old striker.
Although Kenneth is not on Wolves’ radar, they wdo ant to sign a centre-back.
Moxey said: “He was one of the players we were in dialogue with.”
But someone who is edging ever closer to a move to Molineux is Anderlecht utility man Jelle van Damme.
A report today claimed the 6ft 4ins left-sided player has agreed terms on a four-year deal.
Wolves would not confirm the story but are still in negotiations over the fee, which is expected to be around £2.5million.

Van Damme would be another good signing as in the Zuber mould. We do need a PROVEN top flight striker, a left back (Shorey) and a centre back (Curtis). Not too sure about Hunt though – surely he has more ambition than go to Steptoeland at the awful thorns!!!

He looks like Freddie Flintoff’s twin brother!

Dundee United defender ?
That’s an old (younger) photograph of Freddie Flintoff. Great all round cricketer but, suspect at centre half methinks.
Still think there’s something in the Fletcher story, it’s just Jez being coy. Would seem to be a good signing IMO …..just a doubt about his compatibility with KD. A bit similar?

Who WILL we be signing???

We’re still only in May, and there really isn’t a rush. Only Birmingham have signed anyone – and although it’s a good signing, I’d argue that Ben Foster isn’t as good as Joe Hart, so they’re weaker.
As we get into summer a lot of clubs will want to get rid of good players because of the new squad restrictions. Villa’s 6 and West Ham’s ‘everyone except Parker’ is just the start. So, as more and more players become available, salary expectations (and transfer fees) will start to go down.
The other rather obvious point to make is that Wolves won’t be announcing their targets through the E&S – so what you read here is only slightly less speculative than your own shopping list. It doesn’t mean anything.
Relax. There’s a World Cup to watch before we start worrying about next season.

mattyb.
No one of note as always. Unless he played for Sunderland!!!!!!!!
If anyone it will be injury prone Hunt. He was injury prone at Reading and missed a bundle of games, exactly as he did at Wigan.
Oh another possible is Liam Lawrence from Stoke (ex Sunderland)or Tommy Smith from Pompey (ex Sunderland.
Don’t forget there are parachute payments when you get relegated. I bet Mr Moxey has his eye on those.

You’ll have to remind me No 6 exactly when Doyle, Hannehmann, Zubar, Milijas, Mancienne and Guediuora played for Sunderland.
We do need to replace Mance if we can’t get him back. Even then I’m fairly sure we have enough to survive comfortably again next season.

it would be nice if we where looking at some
premier class players,so far all we have been link with is rubbish or average player and we
got lots and lots of them.

8 and 6. Which bit of Wolves statement about Lawrence and Kenneth didn’t you understand ? The media feed you this stuff to sell papers.
6. When did Hunt play for Wigan ? I think you need to check out what you post !

These “links” are often created by agents to generate interest in their players.
We do need a few quality players to improve the squad rather than just make up the nummbers. But does Premiership quality mean Premiership experienced?

Old Gold.
My point exactly!!
Tees Wolf. I can be selective if you like but the list is too long.

Bertie. Come on haven’t you made a slip before???????
Alright so it was HULL. Still doesn’t get over the fact that he is injury prone!!!!!!

Its crucial Wolves sign AT LEAST one descent defender, and we cannot afford these 1-2 million pound signings, as proved last season, with the likes of Surman and Halford barely getting a look in. A few good midfielder’s and a good solid centre forward. Joe Ledley could be a good signing?

Doyle was bought on 30th June last year , I am hoping for signings like that one. Signings that gives the impression of forethought and planning . Not that we are just fishing in the waters with relegation fodder.

There’s an error in that article: Christophe Berra was not given his Scotland debut by Craig Levein, he was given his Scotland debut by George Burley.

fair point Grey Wolf
just is a bit depressing to see we quickly dismiss transfer speculation.
you must also agree that we need to get in quick with quality players or other clubs will beat us to them?

The article says that Levien gave both players thier club debuts, not international. Garry Kenneth is yet to make his debut. It is still wrong though Kenneth played for United under Ian Mcall, Gordon Chisolm and Craig Brewster. Craig Levien was his fourth manager, not including caretakers.

Not sure about dismissing Garry Kenneth, don’t know anything about him other than he fits the young and hungry mould. Glad we have dismissed Lawrence as if we want QUALITY signings he does not remotely fit the bill and would not make us a better team. These guys have to be considered though (excluding Van Damme):
1) Eagles
2) O’Hara
3) Ledley
4) Maynard
All the right age with lots of natural ability who would do well in the Prem. and not break the bank.

Ebanks-Blake should consider himself a lucky boy to be given a second chance, not many EPL clubs would afford him the same privledge after such a pathetic season.
Spurs have now told Keane to look around and made him available. If a realistic deal can be done, do it !!
