Wolves insist they will not be moving for Liam Lawrence despite the Stoke winger issuing a "come and get me" plea to his former boss Mick McCarthy.

The 28-year-old was signed by McCarthy for Sunderland in 2004, his big chance in the game after starting out with then-League Two club Mansfield, before moving on to Stoke but has now fallen out of favour with Potteries boss Tony Pulis.

Wolves' chief executive Jez Moxey is adamant the player is not a target, but Lawrence is open to the move.

He said: "Mick gave me my chance when he signed me from Mansfield for Sunderland. He's a great manager and he's done an amazing job this year keeping Wolves up.

"I've spoken to my manager at Stoke, Tony Pulis, and told him that I think it's best if I move on.

"If I'm not playing regularly, the Republic of Ireland boss isn't going to take a chance on me."
