Borja Valero welcomes Sevilla interest

Albion record signing Borja Valero have welcomed interest from Champions League new-boys Sevilla – as the Baggies added Marcus Olsson to their target list.

Reports in Spain claim Sevilla are preparing to move for Valero after pipping Real Mallorca – the side he played for last season – to the final Champions League spot in La Liga.

And the £4.7million midfielder has admitted his interest in a permanent move back to his homeland, after a year on loan with Mallorca.

He said: “I know that Sevilla are interested, but I do not really know the options out there to be all concrete.

“I like this idea. Sevilla will play the Champions League and that would be awesome.

“It is one of the great competitions and it would be an incredible opportunity.”

Valero is currently scheduled to return to Albion for next season, after starring for Mallorca in their climb to fifth spot in Spain last season.

Mallorca, who applied to enter administration last week, could not afford to take up their option to sign Valero for £3.5million.

But that has freed up the Baggies to demand a higher fee for the 25-year-old if they choose to sell, although head coach Roberto Di Matteo has left the door open for Valero to figure again for Albion next season despite a nightmare debut season for the club.

The Baggies are also keeping tabs on Halmstads winger Olsson, although reports at the weekend of a £600,000 bid are premature.

The 21-year-old, who is the twin brother of Blackburn’s Martin Olsson, has also been linked with Celtic and several Italian clubs.

He started his career in the youth ranks at Hogaborgs BK, who also produced Sweden legend Henrik Larsson. In 2008 he moved to Halmstad, for whom he has mainly played as left winger.

The Baggies are clearly keen to add to their wide midfield options, having lodged an interest in Wolves target Stephen Hunt.
