Wolves’ warning for Aruna Dindane

Wolves have warned transfer target Aruna Dindane they will not be messed around as hopes began to fade of signing him.

The latest twist in the saga of the Lens striker is a move to Qatar, according to his agent Willie McKay.

It emerged the 29-year-old underwent a medical at Bolton earlier this week, when they agreed a fee of around £2.5m with the French club.

Something similar happened at Blackburn before they pulled the plug on a move for the striker, who scored 10 goals on loan at Portsmouth last season.

Dindane was out with a cruciate knee ligament injury the season before last at Lens.

Panathanaikos, who the player called his preferred choice because they offered Champions League football, have now also dropped out of the race to sign him despite outbidding the English clubs for his services.

Now Wolves appear to be losing patience with the Ivory Coast international, who wanted to have his future sorted out before linking up with Sven Goran Eriksson’s World Cup squad in four days’ time.

Wolves have also been linked with out of favour Stoke striker Dave Kitson and Lyon frontman Frederic Piquonne, while they have dismissed reports of interest in Burnley’s Steven Fletcher and Rangers’ Kris Boyd.

Chief executive Jez Moxey said: “If a player is hawking himself around to the highest bidder, the chances are we will not want him anyway.”

“He has to want to come to the club for the right reasons – that is non-negotiable. It is very important to us. For us, the ‘character-fit’ of the player is just as important as the talent.

“The personality has got to be right, because assembling a squad which has got the right chemistry has been a big part of our advance under boss Mick McCarthy.”

Moxey, who is chasing “four or five” targets identified by the manager for strengthening this summer, suggested it would be folly to concentrate solely on one target.

He said: “You’ve got to have options, that’s one thing we have learned.

“You can’t put all your eggs in one basket because if you become obsessed with a particular player, you end up doing silly things.”
