Mulumbu wants clash with pal Anelka

Albion midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu is relishing a Premier League clash with Chelsea and the chance to lock horns with friend Nicolas Anelka.

Mulumbu told how the title-winning Stamford Bridge striker was among the first to congratulate him on helping the Baggies win promotion from the Championship.

Now the Hawthorns fans’ favourite is looking forward to facing Anelka in the top flight, after the pair became friends during their days as team mates at Paris Saint Germain.

The Albion enforcer said: “I’m looking forward to playing against Chelsea and Anelka because he’s my friend. I’m very excited to play against him.

“We talk regularly, usually every week, or at least every month. We had a laugh because I told him I was going to stop him.

“He called me straight away to congratulate me and he put on his website ‘Congratulations to Youssouf Mulumbu’.”

France international Anelka has made more than 300 Premier League appearances with Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Bolton and Chelsea.

The 31-year-old won his second title at the weekend with Chelsea having claimed a first win the Gunners.

And Mulumbu has revealed has already received advice from Anelka on his career in England.

He said: “Nicolas was really happy for me. He told me I deserve it and I have to show what I can do in the Premier League.

“At first when I came to West Brom he said it would be good for me because I have the English style.

“He told me to enjoy it and show how I play.”
