Wolves confirm Dindane interest

Wolves have confirmed their interest in Aruna Dindane – but the Lens striker could be tempted away by the lure of Champions’ League football.

The club have denied reports today suggesting that they had already made a £4million bid for the 29-year-old, who spent the season on loan at Portsmouth.

But there is definite interest from Molineux, which has been countered by Greek giants Panathanaikos, who can offer Champions League football next season.

The Ivory Coast international is likely to decide where his future lies before departing for the World Cup.

Blackburn were reported to have already had Dindane for a medical, but failed to agree a fee with the French club.

Pompey’s financial crisis meant they could not pay the £4million asking price they were due to pay in March, leaving the player’s future up in the air.

Boss Mick McCarthy is a big admirer of Dindane, who scored one of his eight goals against Wolves in Pompey’s 3-1 win over them at Fratton Park 10 days ago.

Dindane’s tally has come despite playing only 19 games this season at Pompey, where the 5ft 6ins forward has been used up front and wide right by manager Avram Grant.

Prior to this season, Dindane scored 27 goals in 102 games for Lens and 50 in 132 appearances for Anderlecht, winning the Belgian Jupiler League in 2001 and 2004.

5ft 6ins! Does this mean we are ditching the narrow pitch and long throws as we will have one of the smallest forward lines (Doyle is 5ft 11ins) in the PL

Not a great goal scoring record there. We need a natural goal scorer not someone who can play ‘wide right or up front’

I think we should go all out to get Keano back. Use some of our money for finishing 15th to subsidise his wages and land him. He is a proven goal scorer and would be a major coup. This nonsense about working with Doyle is bizarre to me. Doyle isn’t a natural goal scorer and they would be a great partnership, I’ve no doubt.

How good is he? I have not seen much of him to be honest, 30/31 years of age… Portsmouth went down of course, but were quite an attacking team, so 8 goals is below average I would say.

Doyle is not a natural goalscorer? I thought he took the goal at West Ham fantastically!

What is he then, a natural sweeper?

Wouldnt be a bad signing, there are better options out there, but would definately add something to the team. His ability to play on the wing would give us further options with our injury prone wingers.

Could be a great signing, but I dont think he would want to come to wolves. I think there will be bigger or should I say higher placed teams in the premiership who will probably get him. Dare I say Stoke!

Last year a lot of talk came out of the club about who they were intrested in signing but that`s all it was ,talk.I hope that this year we will see action and some top players coming in.I also agree with others that an all out move should be made to get Keane back and how about Piquione as well as Dindane? And,don`t forget we need a couple of top defenders, then we should be on the right road to establishing our Premiereship position.

richwolf64 – I agree with your comment about Keane. I dont know where the theory that they wouldnt work well together has come from, maybe their games together for ireland? But i would have imagined, with Doyles work rate, he is often missing in the right position, and Keane postitional sense is second to none in my oppinion, which would make them a perfect fit. Whats the point in having two strikers working hard, but never in the right position, or two strikers always in the right position, but not doing enough to get the ball in the first place.

As for Dindane, as i said earlier, i feel he could be a good signing, as cover for our wingers, and as another option up front if we need him. Wouldnt be the first player picked in the team every week, but would be a definate improvement over some of our players.

I still feel that we should really be looking at strength at the back. This year for me we have been week at Left Back and despite Creaddock rolling back the years we cannot go another year with Berra and Craddock at the back. Foley and Zubar are good cover at right back, but that’s it! We need to get Fox from Burnley, or Shorey from Villa, we need a commanding, vocal Centre Half and have Craddock, Manicenne OR Berra as the other Centre Half. Perhaps we might be able to tempt a Man City player away on loan for a season. I am not convinced by Zayate anyhow.

In Midfield we need at least Hunt as cover for Kightly and Jarvis. We could do with another winger and should look perhaps at Eagles. Could be tempted to stregthen the Centre of midfield with 1 more quality player but think Boateng may be too old now. O’Hara would definately tick that box for me.

Up front I still believe in Ebanks-Blake and feel that Doyle and him should look to really work at a partnership. Yes we need goals, but I thik if the rest of the team was balanced (which it currently is definately not) then goals would come. Dindane yes but lets not make it our number one priority. We desperately need to strengthen the spine of the team, because them down the road and Newcastle are stronger teams than Portsmouth, Burnley and Hull – FACT.

    Up the Wolves!

If 8 goals in 19 Premiership games is average, then only Drogba, Rooney, Bent, Tevez, Lampard, Defoe and Torres were above average last season.

His career goals to games percentage is 34%, Robbie Keane’s is 37%, including a spell at Celtic.

I’m not a Wolves fan, but I’d say you’d be silly just to write this bloke off.

To answer #18 – I think he was only allowed to play a certain amount of games before it triggered a clause in the loan agreement that would have meant Pompey shelling out more money. So basically they couldn’t afford to pay for him to play more games – no injury worries.

He’s the best striker from the relegated clubs. However, if we are concerned about paying the money for Keane, then £4M for Dindane who’s 29 isn’t a great investment either.

He wouldn’t be my first choice but he’d improve the squad and it’s good that he can play on the wing – arguably his best position.

Keane would still be my first choice, but doubt we’ll pay the wages or fee involved.

We also need a left back (Belhadj, Shorey, Fox or Garrido) a centre back (Wheater) a winger (Hunt, Eagles) and a midfielder (O’Hara, Ireland) as well as a striker.

The striker is key, if we can get someone in who can get around 15 goals, we’d be mid-table. It’s worth paying the money and wages for the right player in this position. Doyle is the perfect example!

Also, Dindane is a French name, and is very similar to the french word dindon, which, when translated back to English, is a turkey.

Coincidentally, the name Robert Taylor, when translated into French, means “complete turkey with stuffing”…

Now, must go, as I’m not sure which mushrooms I had in my omelette this morning (which, when translated back into English, means literally, “posh scrabbled eggs fried lightly”

13)Spanish Ray. I disagree, very little came out of the club about transfer targets neither in August nor january. The Media were the ones responsible for the speculation….as ever! You should know how Jez Moxey and Mick McCarthy work, they keep shtum until after the event, successful or otherwise.
It’s another case of laying some sort of blame at MMMs door which is unjustified.

Dindane looked very sharp against us at Fratton Park and scored a cracking header right in front of us, mainly because of his pace rather than his height.
Yes, 20) Geezer, you were right in your answer to 18) St Louis. He was given dispensation to play in the last few matches (inc. FA Cup Final) when Lens waived their appearances fee which poor old pompey couldn’t scrape together.

I do have great reservations with peoples obsession in resigning Keane.
    1. I don’t think he would actually want to come to us.
    2. My major comcern is money, yes it looks like we are going to invest to the next level, BUT WE MUST look at Examples of Leeds, Hull, Portsmouth and West Ham. Spending money that they just could not afford, I dont think 3Ms will do that as they seem very astute in the market with finance. which unfortunately some numpties on here slate them for. Buying Keane i think would be a financial risk, just look at the Bullard -Hull situation, Keane has reportedly been on wages double(+)our highest earner, which I believe is Doyle at around 25k??? Can WE REALLY afford that. We need to fish in the pool below that!!
    3. He has drifted from club to club WHY we must ask ourselves?? People Change!!

Regardin Dindane I believe he had a slow start, but you cant argue with the scoring record he has for the games he has been allowed to play. Get him in!!

I stated this the other day, but a player who i think we should look at is Upson. I was never one of his biggest fans but does the job, West Ham are willing to let him go, he is not gaining interest from the bigger boys anymore and could possibly be in our range. Only his agent and 3Ms would know that!!

Come on 3Ms lets get Hunty in soon, the Hull fans need shutting up on their site. Keep swiping at us Still. Amazing!!

Forget Dindane; if the reported level of competition for his signature is accurate, we won’t have a prayer.
I’m already finding the initial signs discouraging; Guedioura (I’ll get it right eventually!) has done ok but I really haven’t seen enough to justify the 2m we’ve spent on him- and I hope the extension of Mujangi Bia’s loan doesn’t now mean that we’ve completed 2 of the ’3-4 quality signings’ we were meant to be seeking. If that’s the case, the next 2 arrivals need to be pretty spectacular!!

31 WolfyTor74 – totally agree. Keane has obviously changed over time and now appears to be more interested in money. His “dream” nove to Liverpool was a disaster, returning to Spurs has seen no great improvement and moving to Celtic on loan is not exactly a career boosting move despite scoring loads of goals in a very poor league.

Dindane would be a great signing but after the sufferings of this season why would he want to come to another club that will most likely be in the relegation scrap again?

No – not being negative, just realistic. The second season is going to be far harder than the first because any “surprise” factor has well and truly gone. We need 7-8 quality signings not 4-5 if we want to stay on top of that relegation scrap or even out of it altogether.

Guedioura is a good start but would not be considered one of the new signings methinks as that deal was in place from January, just needing to be confirmed.

If I was Moxey, I would be outside Villa Park right now, chequebook in hand, getting Shorey and Sidwell signed up. Maybe even Curtis Davies…

would be a great signing if we can get it sorted.

How about someone like Carlos Bocanegra from Rennes as well? Versatille defender with a knowledge of playing in the same team as Hahneman. According to wikipedia he can also play defensive midfield as well as central defense and left back. Also has prem experience from his time at Fulham.

Still would like us to bid for O’Hara and Belhadj oh and perhaps Joe Ledley who is out of contract at Cardiff.

Mancienne on loan again and try for Daniel Sturridge on loan as i think we could do with the extra striker and sell Iwelumo, Keogh and Maierhofer and send Vokes out on loan
