Jarvis set to miss Portsmouth trip
Thursday 29th April 2010, 11:49AM BST.
Wolves winger Matt Jarvis is set to lose his fitness battle for Saturday’s clash at Portsmouth.
But the 23-year-old, whose thigh strain suffered in the 0-0 draw at Fulham 12 days ago kept him out of last week’s 1-1 stalemate with Blackburn, is hoping to be fit for the final game of the season against Sunderland.
Jarvis has been under treatment for the best part of a fortnight but, after aggravating the injury in attempting to train last week, is understandably cautious.
He said: “I’m not ruling myself out of Saturday’s game so we’ll have to see, but I’d love to be back and playing because of the freedom of playing with us being safe.
“It’s coming along – I’d love to be back for the last game of the season. I have been trying to push on this week and we’ll see where we are tomorrow with it.
“Hopefully this is only a minor thing that will only keep me out for one, possibly two games and then I can be back playing.
“I felt it at Fulham and I tried everything to be fit for the Blackburn match but as I tried to get involved more in training, I tweaked it even more.
“So, unfortunately, I had to rule myself out of that game and get as much treatment as I can to be involved this week.”
Having recently played his 100th Wolves game, Jarvis’s withdrawal ended a run of 24 consecutive Premier League appearances which has made him the club’s top appearance maker this season – a far cry from his injury-curtailed first two years at Molineux.
He said: “I’ve nearly made it through the whole season being fully fit. I’ve been delighted with the way it’s gone this season – to have been involved in as many games as I have has been fantastic and a relief.
“I’m just disappointed I’ve missed one game through injury, but hopefully I’ll be able to get back into the team before the end of the season.”
Jarvis wants to end the campaign unbeaten after one defeat in eight.
He said: “Everyone’s delighted and it will be great if we can finish the season on a high.”

Jarvo you have been superb this season and you will be even better next season.

Get well soon Jarvo!
Most improved player this season in my humble opinion. Well done.

I was really impressed with Matt Jarvis steady improvement through the season. He did an excellent job for the team and I hope that , with the confidence from getting another season at this level, he can continue to improve.
Any football fan loves to see a winger who has pace and can beat a defender and deliver great service into the penalty area. Jarvis can and will do better next season.
COME ON YOU WOLVES!!!

No rush back jarvo. Get yourself fit son.
For me, his performance across the season has been a good comparison for the growth of our team.
At the beginning of the season he had a lack of belief and looked like a player who thought he didn’t belong in the league he was playing but as games have wore on he and the team started to realise that they belong in this league and they can compete.
No game more represented that for me than when we walloped West Ham away. The way Jarvo ran on to that ball and slotted it in to the corner was one of the concluding chapters in his premier league development this season and it was the first occasion where I watched Wolves where we weren’t just hanging on to a lead but properly putting a team through the ringer.
I still think Jarvo is occasionally surprised by himself with the positions he can get in to and as a result his final ball can be a bit rushed but I think next season we will see a different player and a different team with some decent additions.
I cannot wait.

jarvo has been brilliant, hugs the line a bit too much sometimes but can’t fault the lads effort….get another winger in and play 4 4 2 next season with keane and doyle upfront! happy days.

4-4-2 a certainty now then with a more direct approach. Struggled over last 3 games with increasing predictability of 4-5-1 and MM had reverted already in these games with success. They will both be effected again next year.

Give the guy the last 2 games off to get a deserved break in readiness for next year.
Then either give another wide man a chance to see how they fit with a view to keeping or swapping in the summer……….. or look at a change in shape.
Dont work the willing horse to death!

Let’s see Geoffrey again. Yes he was awful against Palace, but, nerves probably paid a big part, new club, new country etc. The scouts must have seen something in him, he wasn’t bought out of a catalogue.
Well played Jarvis, the crosses got better and I think you’ll improve again next season
Just don’t get injured in South Africa playing for England, that’s all !
Get yer autograph book ready Sir Terry, looks like Rob Hulse is coming back.
Boing..boing..oops !

number 3 – Clapham Wolf – excellent post – agree with every word

No 1/ No 7. Eastwood’s Rubbish. Yet again i agree with your comment’s, if Matty Jarvis isn’t fit then why not give young Geoffery a try as there’s no pressure on him, or Dan Jones even, another young player with an excellent Left foot who can cross and pass a good ball and pacy too, who can also defend? even George Friend ( on loan at Exeter). This situation alone proves we need another Top winger in the club, as nobody inside the club as spoken much about Kightly’s fitness ? which is a worry in itself. So if Jarvo or Kites are out for any period of time, we then have to start putting square pegs in round holes, i.e Foley,Ward,Edwards. Thats why id still sign Steve Hunt or Liam Lawrence ( Stoke ) both decent wingers who both work hard on/off the ball. Matty Jarvis is without doubt the ‘Most improved player this season, along with Ronald Zubar. Let Matty rest it and give himself a well earned break ready for another hard slog in the ‘PREMIER LEAGUE’ next season. GOOD LUCK FOR SATURDAY LADS. and i hope ‘ALL YOU GREAT AWAY SUPPORTERS’ have a cracking day out at Portsmouth. UTW

I would like to add ‘Berra’ to my most improved player, he started of a bit shaky and slow, but i feel he’s grown into the PL and got to grips with the pace and physical side of the game over the second half of the season. He’s come up against some of the ‘Top Strikers’ of the PL, unlike the so called ‘Top Strikers’ in the Scottish PL ?. UTW

We need to look at a 4-4-2 but we still have 14th well within our grasp. Let’s give one or two a much deserved rest and have them on the bench if needed.
Hahnemann Foley Zubar Berra Elokobi Edwards Henry Milijas Jones Doyle Ebanks-Blake
Subs:- Hennessey Craddock Surman Mancienne Guedioura Iwelumo Vokes

Mat Jarvis has got to be our most frustrating player to watch. One minute he’s brilliant and the next minute he treads on the ball and falls over. Nevertheless, he’s proved he’s a premiership player.
We knew Kevin Doyle was good, at times this season he’s beem awesome. Craddock has proved a lot of people wrong – me included, and Hahnemann has been excellent.
Another player who deserves a mention is Berra. In the last ten games or so he’s been superb. He’s headed that many balls he must have a permanent headache.
However our player of the season is a local lad signed for next to nothing when we had no players and little money to spend – step forward MR KARL HENRY – We salute you!

Quite agree with number 11 but I would get a nice comfy armchair with a cigar and a glas of Champagne and allow Kevin Doyle to sit this one out. He has worked so hard for us that he deserves a rest and the knowledge that we all love him for what he has done.

Well Done this season Jarvo, definately a candidate for most improved player.
His pace is frightening, and with his ever growing confidence big things could happen for him i honestly believe that. Just stay injury free.
Definately give geoffrey a try, we have him on loan he needs to be tested. Nothing worse then letting him go and then someone like the Tescos come along and have him, and we find out he is a real gem. Get him MM.
Keep saying this but Come on everyone travelling Saturday, get them Wizard outfits or hats out, for our Merlin Mick the Magician. One thing the baggies fans do well on the last away match is the fancy dress so lets better them.
Mind You they are a load of Clowns he he!!!

18) On the same wavelength as me but I do not like Henry and Mancienne both in the centre as it is too defensive!
Mendez Laing is a good shout and possibly Hemmings!

Dont see the two kids getting a go, they are contracted and have a whole pre season ahead to prove themselves.Geoffrey is on loan to the end of the season, time to make an impact or go!!!

MM quoted on Football 365 that Bia is going to start tomorrow.
Only seen him once and he was a fish out of water but it shows attacking intent
