Carew plans to play on for Norway
Thursday 29th April 2010, 9:45AM BST.
Villa star John Carew has no plans to hang up his international boots any time soon and is planning to reach 100 caps for Norway.
The 30-year-old Holte End favourite, who has scored 16 goals for the club this season, currently stands at 80 appearances for country.
Carew has once again been forced to miss a chunk of the campaign with nagging injuries, but is confident his fitness problems are now firmly behind him.
He said: “It would be nice to reach 100 caps. As long as I feel up for it and my body feels good I will keep going.
“Playing for my club is the most important thing, but as long as I feel I can bring something to the national team, I will carry on.
“It’s been a good season for me apart from those niggling injuries during the winter.
“It was a struggle to get back to full fitness and I had to take my time, but I came back strongly and I’m happy with the way things have gone over the past two months.”
Carew reckons this season can be deemed a success for Villa – regardless of how their Champions League mission ends.
He said: “It’s been good for all of us. Not many teams get to Wembley twice in one season. We have achieved that, as well as pushing for a fourth place finish in the league.
“Playing at Wembley was obviously special and it’s given us a taste for more, hopefully next season.
“It’s a very impressive venue, although I prefer Villa Park. The atmosphere is brilliant.”
