Tamas is hoping to finish in style

Gabriel Tamas today urged Albion to end their promotion campaign in style by collecting another record against Barnsley on Sunday.

The Baggies will end their historic season with the club’s official promotion party as the Tykes visit The Hawthorns for the final match of the year.

But, before Albion stage an end-of-season presentation on the pitch after Sunday’s match, Tamas wants another piece of history.

Having already beaten the Baggies’ all-time points total in a single season at Crystal Palace on Monday, a win on Sunday would take Roberto Di Matteo’s men past Leicester’s record total of 92 points for runners-up in the second tier.

Tamas said: “The gaffer and the staff told us we have a goal now to beat 92 points.

“The maximum points ever for second place was 92, so we have a goal now and we hope to win at home to get that goal.

“Also we reached the goal of beating the club points record. We had two goals and now we have one more.

“The record we have means a lot because we have worked for something and achieved it.

“We are not on holiday right now.

“Our holidays come after one more game but this is football and we are professional footballers so we must want to win every game.

“It doesn’t matter whether we are promoted or not.”

Tamas will join his Baggies team mates for their celebrations on Sunday before attempting to wrap up his permanent move to The Hawthorns.

The Baggies confirmed yesterday that they have indicated to both Tamas and his current club, Auxerre, that they intend to take up their £800,000 option on the 26-year-old.

Tamas will then spend the summer attempting to cement his place in the Romania national team.

He said: “We have three games from May 26 to June 8.

“I spoke to the coach and I am going to be there. It’s good for me but I need some holidays as well because I have played everywhere!”

    JACK the HAT.

I’m doubting his bad reputation. He hasn’t been a
gram of trouble since he’s been at ALBION. he’s adapted well progressing all the time, into a
    competent defender. Sign him up.

A centre half who an score goals. Both of his have been beauties, with the Crystal Palace one the better of the two, in the main because he was being pulled ‘downhill’ by a defender, yet he still did the job. He doesn’t lose his rag either when fouled. At 800K a bigger ‘steal’ than Jara. We have been told that more money will be spent on wages to attract top players. OK, with the usual sensible approach of JP I hope, because Hull are £38M in debt, relegated and can’t meet the wage bill. When the true reality of the British monetary mess hits the fan, there will be others following suit. Let’s not be among them. PLEASE!
