Cech ready to delay contract talks

Albion defender Marek Cech is ready to delay talks over his Hawthorns future until after this summer’s World Cup.
The Slovakia international is keen to extend his stay with the Baggies after kick-starting his career in England this season.
But the 26-year-old plans to focus on his country’s World Cup campaign in South Africa before addressing his club future.
He said: “I don’t think right now about making a contract or leaving the club, because I have more important things to do.
“I need to prepare for Sunday and then think about the World Cup at the moment. I cannot say how the future is because nobody knows what will happen in anybody’s future.
“But we will see what happens in the summer and I hope my future will be okay.”
Cech looked set to leave the Hawthorns last summer after a low-key first season in the Premier League, struggling to displace former vice-captain Paul Robinson at left-back.
The Slovakia international is now much happier with life at the club.
He said: “This season has been better. I played more games and I have enjoyed playing here.
“At the beginning of the season I was very unhappy but now I am very happy that I stayed and that we got promoted with me in the team.”
Cech also laughed off coin-throwing and spitting incidents involving vice-captain Jonas Olsson at Crystal Palace last night.
Olsson was targeted with a coin by a Palace fan who accused him of feigning injury, but picked up the missile and put it down his sock in a show of humour.
The Swede then claimed he was spat at by youngsters upon leaving the field, but Cech played down the seriousness of the incidents.
He said: “Jonas told me in the dressing room that when he went back to the dressing room some small boys in the entrance spat on him.
“During the game he found a coin on the pitch and he showed it to the people and said ‘thank you for the coin.’
“It was really funny.”
Cech made a vital last-ditch goalline clearance to earn his side a point last night, but admitted the defending made up for his own mistake.
He said: “A few seconds before I lost the ball on the edge of the box. They went from the right side to the left side and I expected him to shoot diagonally to the far post.
“I was waiting there and luckily for me it came there.”
