Albion reject West Ham Dorrans offer

Albion have rejected an offer of around £4million from West Ham for midfield star Graham Dorrans.

The Hammers opened a potential summer of bidding for the Player of the Season, but Baggies chairman Jeremy Peace came out fighting and insisted the player is “not for sale.”

Dorrans, who starred again in last night’s 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace, has emerged as the Championship’s most prized player thanks to a stunning season in Albion’s successful promotion campaign.

A host of Premier League clubs have watched the 23-year-old – who cost £100,000 from Livingston in January 2008 – in action and West Ham today became the first to show their hand.

But Peace said: “I want to make it clear again that Graham Dorrans is not for sale.

“As I have stressed several times since we achieved promotion over two weeks ago, our aim now is to retain our core players and try to strengthen our squad around them.”

An Albion statement also confirmed the rejection of a written offer from Upton Park but the faxed bid, received at the Baggies’ training ground this morning, is believed to be worth just under £4million.

The Baggies, who value their star midfielder at a much higher rate, are desperate to keep him as the lynchpin of their bid to stay in the Premier League next season.

But they will be painfully aware that their stance is unlikely to prevent a summer of intense speculation over his future, with the Hammers placing their cards on the table while both Arsenal and Everton are known to have watched the former Livingtson man.

Dorrans, who has hit 17 goals in all competitions this season, was last week voted Player of the Season by Albion fans and was named yesterday in the PFA Championship team of the year.

His agent, Willie McKay, said: “Graham has had a fantastic season for West Brom and I know a lot of clubs are interested in him.

“As far as I know Graham is very happy at West Brom, but every player wants to play at the highest level they can.”

Message for Willie Mckay, West Ham aint “the highest level”. Had it not been such a poor premier league, they would probably have gone down. Fair play to Fulham,( Jonno and Gera) but few of the other players who have left have bettered themselves. Some don`t even play regularly.

Please Please Please JP don’t let the size of the ££££’s dictate next years future of Graham, we need him if we have any chance of staying up. Last night I watched him with pride to think Albion had such a tremendious player and along with the core members of the team I have a good feeling for next season.

He won’t go this Summer, it will all depend on how he, and the team perform next season as to whether he moves next Summer in my opinion.

If he’s brilliant at Premier League level and the Albion falter, it’s obvious that he’d move on, however, if we have a good season, then why not stay at the Albion for years to come????

He’s still only 22 or 23 I think, so he’s got 10 years ahead of him at Premier League level.

4 Million what a joke! Dorrans is worth 3 times that. Why would he leave for West Ham anyway they are not going places. Arsenal Everton yes but not West Ham. Dorrans will be with us next season as he just signed a new contract. 15 million then yes he is yours.

4 million, it’s a joke. The question is how much would a likely replacement cost the Baggies? A damn sight more than 4 million me thinks. Of Course presuming Livingstone don’t have a couple more tucked down the back of the sofa

Trust the Cockney Barrow Boys to come in with a low offer. I think if they put a one in front of the four JP may still turn it down , Dorrans is that good. If he is eventually sold it will be to a club with the money, not one at risk of folding. In any case lets keep him at least for next season , his agent will only try to broker a transfer so he can get his cut. Fortunately Graham seems to be a canny Scot and will make up his own mind if he wants to move on.

He may well stay. I can’t see anyone going higher than 5 million. However his agent Willie does like to keep ‘em moving. West Brom may need to increase his wages.

So West Ham bid for dorrens on the day they put every player on their books other than parker up for sale – its almost as if they are trying to appease the fans……

Bet GD would love to join a club with one other player on the books – and he plays in your position !!!!

Obviously a slow news day….£10m plus Scott Parker and we’ll think about it, otherwise shut up Mr Gold. Great entertainment last night and a great atmosphere…Hats off to the Palace fans who were really up for it despite the possiblilty of them not having a club to support no matter what happens at Hillsboro…will that game be shown live on the Beeb ?

    I thank you…

Another Wolves fan in peace. Agree completely with 13. McKay would have sent this story out, he’ll be the one issuing statement after statement, and its bad news he’s Dorrans’ agent.
He unsettled Camara at our place by issuing similar stories like these. Modeste M’Bami and Dino Baggio were also sold to other clubs using us as bait first.
Now look…West Ham interested. Everyone knows Dorrans wouldn’t touch West Ham. Anyway, I digress…
…Hope to see him in a Baggies shirt at the Molineux next season. And I hope he has a stinker!

Did Gold miss something – We got promoted. We have a more stable club financially and a better chance of still having our current manager in place come August.
can only assume Willie McKay has had more than too many drams of Whiskey ;).
We have already given Dozza two improved deals since he joined us. If McKay is broke he should find us players to buy not sell our gems to the first bidder. I hate agents like this. Surely when a player joins a club there needs to be a clause with the agent and the club to prevent the agent doing this without the club and players prior permission.
JP needs to stick to his guns here. No amount of money is enough. We want to build a team around him. He is that good. JP has put up season ticket prices for next year – this should be why.
As I said before perhaps a swap for Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney or Messi ;)- but not 4m from a team who wont probably pay it for 3 years.

16 and 19. Totally agree. Sullivan would likely want to pay for it using 3 pound notes over 5 years beginning in 2015. I’m pretty sure JP knows only too well the pitfalls of doing business with the East End mob and their monopoly money.

If we do sell GD it’ll be for 8 figures and to one of the big boys. In any event, I don’t see such an offer materialising this summer and fully expect to see him walking out of the tunnel in an Albion shirt when we kick off our 2010/11 Premiership campaign.

He has a 6mil release clause which if triggered he is free to talk to other clubs unfortunately, which was part of his new contract in the clubs interest so we get at least 6mil. He wouldnt join the circus at Westham but if we do not come up with the goods during the transfer window I can see him going to Everton who apparently have had scouts at the Hawthorns alot. Unfortunately, this is the modern game.

Dorrens will move on eventually, players always do – thats football. But it won’t happen for a while yet. Everyone in the game knows what a huge talent he is and he’s going right to the very top, he will end up playing in the champions league for sure. JP knows this and will not consider any offer under £10M+, the big boys know it too and are just waiting to see how he fairs at prem level, but they will come calling…as for west ham? – don’t make me laugh! He is good enough to play for the biggest clubs in europe. I will feel cheated as a fan if he goes for less than £15 million and to a below average or even an average premiere league club. You may laugh and tell me to get real but to replace him will not be cheap.

GD will eventually go agent will offer him big
money elsewhere sadly its the way it is However if we suprise critics and achieve a mid table position he may stay. We do need to
strengthen the squad had we have had a decent
centre forward we would have buried Palace.
Ireally like Olssen but he needs to get anger
management treatment. I think Cox could be a star next season I can recall the early days
of Tony Brown also Ian Rush Sheringham prolific scorers in lower leagues Lineker also. Surely we can do better than Wolves whose centre back is their second highest scorer.

£4M, HAHAHAHAAHA, that is the most pathetic offer in football history, why would Dorrans want to go to a club who nearly got relegated last season ?? If we can sell Curtissss Davisssss for £10M then Dorrans is worth double, he IS the future of this club, HE is the player that RDM will be building his team around next season.
With other teams reputed to be interested eg, Arsenal, Man City, Vile Im sure West Ham would be the last place Dorrans would go.

Every once in a while a club like us will find a little gem like Dozza and when they prove they have a bit of class we watch vultures come in, but you can’t really call WHU vultures, there more like homing pidgeons in the race for what is arguably the best talent outside the top division, as for the £12 mill valuation a club that really wanted to keep there prized assett would have put a higher valuation on him as I believe that with a good season under the Albion next year he will be pushing the £20 mill barrier. This is easily the best thing that “ex” Celtic boss done for this club.
P.s is £12 million really gonna put off the likes Man City who have bag loads of cash….. At least until the Sheikhs get bored and buy a Playstation or something.
