Wolves warned it only gets harder
Monday 26th April 2010, 9:11AM BST.
Wolves have been warned that staying in the Premier League will be even harder next season.
Mick McCarthy’s side clinched survival with two games left but with established top flight names Newcastle and Albion already promoted, striker Chris Iwelumo believes it will be even more difficult to compete in 2010/11.
He said: “We can all dream that we can be up there in the table, but next season will be just as hard, if not harder because people know what to expect.
“Look at the teams coming up – Newcastle and West Brom have been there and done it, they have the strength in depth and the money behind them, so all we can do is make sure we get the right players, the right characters with the right work ethic and hopefully that little bit of quality as well and build slowly but surely.
“Next season we’ll bring in a bit of quality but it’s going to be a hard season again. We’re going to be fighting again and with a little bit of luck we won’t be sucked into that bottom part, but it’s a hard league.
“We’ve just got keep it tight and solid, hope for a bit of magic along the way and a wee bit of luck, which always makes the difference.”
Iwelumo believes McCarthy has delighted in proving the doubters wrong this term.
The Scotland international said: “Everyone has targets, goals and points to prove.
“Once you’re living a life with no dreams or no goals, there’s no point in living is there?”
