Referee ‘a disgrace’ fumes Johnson

Furious Birmingham defender Roger Johnson branded referee Martin Atkinson “a disgrace” after the referee awarded Villa their controversial late penalty winner.

Johnson was outraged after Atkinson deemed he had fouled Gabby Agbonlahor inside the box, despite replays indicating the Blues centre-back got the ball first.

James Milner stepped up to convert the 83rd-minute penalty leaving Blues, who enjoyed the better fo the chances, facing up to their sixth successive Second-City derby defeat.

Johnson said: “The decision regarding the penalty was a disgrace. I thought the referee was a disgrace the whole game through if I’m being honest.

“The rules are if you are not sure about a decision, you don’t give a penalty and the referee was a million miles away from the incident.

“The linesman could see it better than the referee. But the crowd are getting the sound up and the referee bottled it for me. It is an outrageous decision.

“Did the referee explain the decision? Don’t be silly. Referees don’t talk to you. They just say ‘go away.’

“You can’t talk to them. They all ask for respect but you can’t talk to them so it is a waste of time.”

The attitude of Johnson, Carr etc was a disgrace ….. lets hope the FA have letters in the post already !!

Yes written by a Villa fan but did you see Villa players showing same attitude in two Wembley games when they felt decisions were incorrect

What did BCFC say regarding the Enkleman goal a few years ago …….

You want honest football? Why did Carr stand kicking the penalty spot before the kick was taken? Cheats.

You moan about dubious penalty decisions….Melchiot on Fahey this season at St Andrews….remeber it? Cheats.

Bitter, that’s all you are with a whole lot of jealousy added to it.

Unfortunately, over-moneyed, over-hyped football is now breeding a generation of players who are quite happy to scuff up the penalty spot ahead of a crucial kick. Imagine any of those great players who graced Molineux at half-time on Saturday doing that? NOt a chance. You get what you pay for!

It’s a pretty cheap shot by Johnson to claim the referee should have come out and explained his decision when he knows full well that the referee can’t as per the Referee Managers directive two seasons ago.

As for cheating, let’s talk about cheating shall we! Let’s talk about the Brummie basher thugs from the 70’s, Gallagher and Burns! Or how about Shirley Savage throwing herself to the floor when shouted at by big Dion? How many penalties did Fancy Francis win during his time at the dump? Carr yesterday cleaning his studs on the penalty spot! The list goes on.

It’s also amusing that these comments come from a Championship-class defender who has managed to con his way into the Premiership. Both he and his manager need to brush up on the rule change that came into force during last summer where tackles deemed either dangerous or mistimed could be penalised even when taking some of the ball such as yesterday. There were at least half-a-dozen other tackles yesterday where fouls were given despite the Blues player getting some of the ball. It’s called ‘lunging in’!

Any decent Premiership centre half would have known this and would have simply shepherded the ball out for a goal kick! End of! UTV

In case you are interested in a neutral opinion, the minute I saw the pen and the reaction I instantly thought of the Blues player blatantly cheating to get the win over Wigan. It could have been enough to relegate Wigan. Sorry Blue Noses but you can’t have it both ways. Your player dived and yesterday was clearly a pen.
    The Wolves are staying up!

Villa didnt cheat and nor did the ref but as a team birmingham have every right to feel angry and frustrated they themselves were cheated like i said not by the ref or villa but surely you have to see where there coming from. You cant say about carr and johnsons attitude when the pen was initially given when you know you have got the ball an the ref says other wise in such a crucial game like a derby you are going to react like they did. Carr wasnt exactly justified in what he did but if you know something is definately not right like the decision then i spose you want some sort of justice. But obviously theres nothink you can do about it. And roger johnson isnt a championship defender conning his way to the prem his performances this season have shown that. And come on sheppard the ball against agbonlahor? He was near enough past him
there was no way he could of sheppaded it out?

its not the ref who is at a disgrace.. its the conduct of birmingham city bringing the game into disreput yet again,(remember blues v liverpool under francis) for johnson to say the ref was a disgrace is outrageous, even blues surporters thought it was a penalty as it happened,, just because the replay shows a slight touch of the ball before abonlahor was hacked down , the rules are clear ,, sliding tackles / dangerous play is a penalty, and johnson was beaten to the ball being half a stride behind. i understand the fustration from johnson and mclish but villa have had many far worse clear cut decisions agaist them in recent weeks important cup finals/semi finals , but its a discrace the way johnson has riddiculed the ref . and johnson surgests through the whole game too?? Well the ref did make one mistake and that was when he should of booked joe heart for intimadating milner before the penalty kick, heart clearly comes off his line and having words with milner,, another absolute disgrace! i thought the ref was very fair best ive seen for a while if birmingham stop fouling and play a game of football then the they woulden’t have dicisions agaist them.. the ref’s decision is final and you gorra get on with it. as for carly with his vile hand gestures to the villa fans i hope he gets what is comming to him too,and the club should be fined .. its a absoulute disgrace to football . people bring their family’s down to football and dont want to see professional players with such conduct.. hope something is done about this.
