New addition to Albion backroom
Monday 26th April 2010, 9:15AM BST.
Former Chelsea doctor Mark Gillett will lead Albion’s medical team for the new Premier League season.
Gillett will join the Baggies’ backroom staff full-time in August as head of medical services, after linking up with the squad as a part-time consultant in recent weeks.
The sports medicine specialist will work alongside current club doctor Kevin Conod and physio Richie Rawlins to prevent and treat injuries at the Hawthorns.
Head coach Roberto Di Matteo said: “Mark joined us in mid-March and he’ll be full-time from next season.
“But I must say the medical department has done well this season. Our player availability has been very, very high. It wasn’t a question that we weren’t happy.
“We just wanted to make another step up and try to give the players the best available support to enable them to perform at the highest level.”
