McCarthy pledges to bring in fighters

Boss Mick McCarthy has told fans he must continue to buy battlers to preserve Wolves’ Premier League status.

McCarthy has kept a core of tried and trusted performers from his young and hungry Championship side and they will be looking to keep up the good work by clinching safety with victory over Blackburn today.

Most of the recent starting XI were regulars as Wolves swept to the second tier title last season.

Jody Craddock, Christophe Berra, Karl Henry, David Jones, Dave Edwards and Matt Jarvis, while Wayne Hennessey and Stephen Ward are on the bench and George Elokobi has recently returned to the top flight stage.

Chief executive Jez Moxey said recently that there would be a “quality over quantity” policy this summer.

And McCarthy reckons the teams in the bottom half of the Premier League must attract the solid, organised types as a necessity just to stay up.

“Please God, I hope to goodness I’m going to be needing the same type next season because it will mean we’re in this league,” said the boss.
