Mancienne eyes new loan spell

Michael Mancienne today opened the door to a return to Wolves next season.

The on-loan Chelsea man is currently excelling as a holding midfielder at Molineux but his future is unclear beyond the end of the campaign.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has indicated the 22-year-old’s development may be best served by having another season out on loan.

And the England Under-21 international, who made his 100th League appearance in Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Fulham, today admitted he would look favourably on a third spell with Wolves.

“I want to do the best I can for Wolves to get them safe and then concentrate on where I’m going to be next season,” said Mancienne.

“But if I was to come on loan again, Wolves would definitely be in my thoughts, yes. I’m not 100 per cent sure what’s happening next season – I’ve just got to take it as it comes.

“But I’m enjoying it here at Wolves – I get along with all the boys and we’re all roughly the same age. There are no bad eggs in the camp.”

Central to Mancienne’s satisfaction at Wolves is the way he feels he is developing as a player.

“I’ve definitely progressed as a player,” he added.

“Playing week-in, week-out has helped me mature as a player because I’m playing against top quality players in the Premier League – that can only be good for my game because it helps me learn.”

McCarthy said: “I’ve had the discussion with Michael about trying to be a Premier League winner and a Champions League winner playing in the position he does for us and I don’t think that’s going to happen.

“But that’s up to Chelsea.

“Does he go back to being a squad member or do they want to allow him further education playing in the league?

“I don’t know the answer because I’ve not had those discussions with Chelsea. When they feel the time is right and talk to me, then I’ll find out.”

McCarthy refused to be drawn on whether he would consider trying to buy Mancienne.

“That’s like tapping him up!” he said.

Tap him up as he is worth keeping that is for sure! There is no doubt that Mancienne would prefer to be playing at Chelsea however if he is not wanted then lets get him signed up permanently. This is the quality we need!

Try to sign him up on a permanent deal. His best position is in the holding midfield role, sorry but not central defence when up against the more powerful and direct strikers, they just shrug him off. He has the ability of getting his foot in quicker than any other, and then moving it on. I can see him playing this role better then Henry. Just keep it on the quiet as we seem to be doing…

World class! and future England captain! I think not! have you watched him this year Jason? In the Championship different class, in the Prem about average.
Should we sign him, yes of course we can’t afford world beaters, but we need consistant performers. He’s certainly Prem quality but calm down on the superlatives!
How about Bullard, Reocoker, ledley, lallana, to compete for midfield spots. Another quality forawrd not a 3mil gamble and another left back (dare I say mancienne) and you heard it hear firsy SEB will come good! keep the faith!

Id love to see him sign permanently, the sort of quality that we need. I would also welcome him back for another season on loan. Good to Milijas has a future at the club because the bloke is a class-act, he was being carried when we were defending and with 1 defeat in 7 micks decision has been correct. If we secure safety on Saturday I think that Doyle and a few others deserve a rest and we will see the likes of SEB, Milijas, Guerdiora , Stearman and Castillo. Id like to see:

    Out:
    Hennessey (for decent money)
    Vokes (loan)
    Surman (loan)
    Halford
    Maierhoffer

    In:
    Keane
    O’Hara
    Shorey or Gibbs
    Boaz Myhill
    Steve Sidwell

Very good player, and has improved massively this season, personally if were given both options ie loan or buy, i’d loan him for another season and keep the £5m(ish) it would cost to sign him for other players, and then reassess the situation at the end of next season

He only needs to look at players like Shaun Wright-Philips and Steve Sidwell to see talented careers stunted by plumping for Chelsea – Wright-Phillips was going to be Beckham’s natural successor, but warming Chelsea’s bench set his career back by at least two years. Now he’s rebuilding his reputation back at Man City while others have emerged to take his place. Sidwell was a future England midfielder til he joined Chelsea – now he can’t even get a game for the Villa. He’ll be back in the Championship in two/three years time.

What Michael also needs to think about is what will happen next season if England’s ‘all-star’ midfield flops in the World Cup. He’s already on Capello’s radar as a defender, and if Capello notices how he’s blossoming into a top-drawer holding midfielder then he might just reap the benefit of any future England cull. Will he get in the England set-up again by playing 15 games a season for Chelsea, including the Carling Cup?

There won’t be many potential England internationals that Wolves will have the opportunity of signing this summer so if Mancienne were available we should jump at the chance.

I think Mancienne would be an excellent signing on a permanent basis, if Chelsea now see him as we do as a holding midfielder then I believe he would be surplus to requirements as Essien and Obi-Mikel are better players however if Chelsea prefer him as a CB then he may have a future at the club as Chelsea’s centre backs are all over the age of 26-27.

Mancienne is becoming a very good footballer and lets hope Chelsea let him move on.

Lets now focus on Blackburn and getting 3 points and then we can talk about who’s coming in and out

Chelsea and Wolves are very aware of the value this player I am sure Mick will do the the right thing, loan him if he can, or buy him at today’s prices for tomorrow and into the new season prices will be at max you see!! by the loan deal, this will make funds available for other players.

I’d give Mick the money ( not lend him ) if i had it myself. Young, wants to play for us, part of the team, and potentially an full England international in the making. Has been outstandung in key games this seasin, Villa, west ham and was clearly best player on the pitch against Arsenal. Sign him, nice chap to boot !!

Buy him if at all possible.

Just the sort of quality we should be aiming for from now on.

I appreciate the qualities this lad brings but he and Chelsea should be challenged, put a bid in for him. If it’s a ‘no deal’ move on we need to start the planning phase now.

Adopt this approach now and don’t get left with the scraps. We need to seize the initiative, approach clubs that are already talking about big buy rebuilding. Man City for instance, would Steven Ireland not do a great job for us, he’s on the fringes now so where will he be after the inevitable multi-million shopping spree is complete after this summers World Cup.

If you don’t ask, you don’t get.
