Wolves could get ugly warns Foley
Thursday 22nd April 2010, 10:00AM BST.
Utility man Kevin Foley has warned Wolves fans not to expect flowing football as tension mounts in the scramble for Premier League survival.
The club will stay up if they beat Blackburn at a sold-out Molineux on Saturday, barring Hull winning all three games as well as gaining an 18-goal landslide in their favour.
But Foley is not getting carried away and believes the nerves may start to show as Wolves try to get the points they need.
The full-back-cum-midfielder said: “It’s all about getting as many points as we can and they’re probably not going to be brilliant games.
“We’re just trying to take something from every game. We’ve looked quite solid over the second part of the season and that’s given us something we can build on.”
Wolves aim for three points having gone six and a half hours without scoring and having notched just one in 12 hours, 40 minutes at Molineux.
But they have kept three clean sheets in their last four games and Foley stressed the latter elements were their priority right now because of his confidence the goals will come.
He said: “Picking up points and keeping clean sheets is more of a positive than the fact we’ve not scored too many recently, because we know we can create chances.
“The solid foundations are important in giving us something to build on next season if we can avoid relegation.
“I think we’ve developed more know-how as the season has gone on and become more disciplined in our play.
“Hopefully that puts us in good stead to pick up the points needed over the final three games.”
Foley admitted adapting to the Premier League has been a learning curve over time, after the vast majority of the squad went into the season without any top flight experience.
He said: “At the beginning of the season you wonder how much different the Premier League is going to be to what you’re used to.
“But once you get a few results and performances under your belt, it eases you in and you start to adapt.
“We’ve played some good football in recent games and I’m sure the goals will come.”
Wolves are only too aware of the strange results this season and, after Wigan and Bolton overturned Arsenal and Stoke respectively last weekend, Foley is not surprised at the sequence.
He said: “Strange results can happen at this time of year, but they’ve also happened a lot during the season.
“The top four have lost a lot more games than normal – and ones you wouldn’t expect them to lose.
“People have been taking points off everyone else and there’s still a lot to play for. Hopefully if we can get one more win that should see us safe.
“If we can do it against Blackburn in front of our home fans it would be ideal.”
