Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Follow Fulham’s lead urges Greening
Wednesday 21st April 2010, 10:00AM BST.
Former Albion captain Jonathan Greening has challenged the Baggies to follow his new club Fulham into the Premier League’s top 10.
Greening left the Hawthorns for Craven Cottage last summer but watched with delight as his former team-mates clinched promotion from the Championship.
Now the 31-year-old believes his old club are capable of emulating the Cottagers’ success in the Premier League.
He said: “Fulham are a similar club in many ways to Albion. As a club there’s no reason why they can’t match what we have done and break into that top ten and maybe push for Europe some time in the future.
“It might take a couple of years but they’ve got the means and structure to do it. Fulham are the benchmark for clubs coming up in so many ways and I think Roy Hodgson deserves credit for turning them into that kind of club.
“One of the things you need to build is a good team spirit and ethic. We’ve got that at Fulham and Roberto Di Matteo seems to have done it at Albion. I left behind a club that was being really transformed by him following his arrival.
“It’s never easy when a new man comes in, but he and the coaching staff really did a lot to lift everyone and now they’re benefiting from that.
“That’s why I think they’ve not only got a good chance of staying up but actually prospering.”
