Milijas pleads for a fresh chance

Nenad Milijas today pleaded for a fresh chance to revive his Wolves career after admitting he could face a summer of uncertainty.

The Serbia international acknowledges the team is doing well without him but is desperate to play a part in Wolves’ survival bid before the World Cup.

Milijas, a £2.6m signing from Red Star Belgrade last summer, has not featured since coming off the bench in the 1-0 win against Tottenham and last started 11 Premier League games ago in the 0-0 draw with Liverpool.

“The season isn’t over yet and we have six more games,” said Milijas, who got 90 minutes in the reserves’ 3-1 win against Stoke last night.

“I’ve played 16 Premier League games which is OK for my first season.

“I think I will get chances to play in some of the last six matches.

“If I don’t get that then I am probably not needed to stay here.

“But let’s finish the season first and see what happens.

“I think I will stay but I don’t want to talk about next season.

“I just want to finish this season happily because after these last six games, I’ve got the World Cup.”

Continuing to adapt to the gruelling demands of English top flight football, Milijas has seen David Jones preferred to him pretty much since the team switched to 4-5-1.

The 26-year-old says his destiny is in the hands of boss Mick McCarthy.

“The gaffer will decide whether I stay or whether it’s better for me and the club that I go,” said the midfielder.

“He has to decide which players are important to him and which ones are not important.

“If I’m important, I will stay because I’m happy here.

“This gaffer saw me play, he brought me here and he believes in me.

“But now, everyone can see the team is playing well and no one can get into the team.

“I’ve spoken to him about why I don’t play and I’ve asked if I’ve done something wrong.

“He’s told me I’m training well and he wants to see me in the first team – he’s told me he brought me here to play, not to be out of the squad.

“But I’m happy to be here.”
