Villa deny boss O’Neill has quit

Villa have moved to deny reports that Martin O’Neill has quit as manager.

Reports this afternoon claimed the 58-year-old had stood down from his post, following a disagreement with owner Randy Lerner over this summer’s transfer plans.

But club sources insist that O’Neill, who has been in charge since 2006, has not resigned.

Villa suffered their heaviest ever Premier League defeat in Saturday’s dismal 7-1 defeat at Chelsea, but are due to meet Carlo Ancelotti’s side again in the semi-finals of the FA Cup a week on Saturday.

In the four years martin has been in charge this is the first time something has arisen regarding his future as manager.he has spent heavily on the team since his tenure.the football has not been as good as last season and the fans have been left frustrated.if it is to be o’neills last season as manager then i wish him all the best but i would recomend a foreign manager with new ideas and mix the squad with english and overseas players.UTV

You heard it here at the star first, Mick McCarthy is in talks with Randy! Micks talents have been recognised and long admired by Randy!
In all seriousness as a Wolves fan this doesn’t surprise me, I’ve said for a long time O’neil would step aside from the villa and take a break in order to take up a high profile position such as United.
    Up the wolves

ifty, are you nuts? Compared to the foreign managers he hasnt spent heavily and Mancini will be gone from the Premiership shortly as will another one whos been found out, Benitez. MON is the manager all Premier Clubs would love to have, you lot are just too impatient.

    Ifty,
Foreign players and managers, are the reason that football in the UK is in the state it is in.
The over inflated wages they earn, does not go back into our coffers, it goes into foreign bank accounts.
the style of cheating culture that has blighted our game, is also a legacy created by forign players.
Lastly, the reason our National teams do so poorly, is because our own young talent cannot thrive and flourish, because there are so many foreign players being bought in by foreign managers and owners.

The villa fans are never happy probably your best manager in many years i would look at the chairman what money was available in the transfer window same thing happened last year squad is just not big enough to compete with the top 6 in the end.

Would be very dissappointed if he did leave, first sign of trouble and jumps ship. Saying that though his scouting network seems poor, we only buy established players, was hoping he would turn up some rough diamonds but apart from Delph we just seem to buy other Premiership and Scots Premiership players? For weeks Downing and Petrov have struggled after half time, yet they never get taken off, like last year we have a very soft centre midfield, no height, no tracking back and don’t get in the attacking 6 yard box either.
The players owe us a performance now though, Wembley should be the place to make it!

ifty…what a load of utter rubbish. You’ve been left frustrated and you want a foreign manager! Yeah, he’s really spent heavily hasn’t he…..I take my hat off to the Villa and their interest in British players. Look at Liverpool, has it worked for them? You should try being a Walsall supporter for a season like me pal, and then you’ll feel what frustration is. A small club, with NO money, NO fans and not very good players, many of which are just over 19. That’s frustration. What a joke.

Yes, some of our fans are fickle and yes, our midfield needs to be addressed next season, but Martin has done a brilliant job.
If UEFA or FIFA were to bring in the foreign player ceiling next season we would walk away with the title. WE are only team currently able to not have to worry due to Martin’s ethics to bring on British players.
Best team in the Midlands who the yo-yo clubs envy.

all you wolves and brum fans saying villa fans arent happy, i am i’d be gutted if o’neil went, im always there singing regardless of the result…the fans who boo and dismiss the team because of 1 completey out of character result dont derserve a voice.

with a bit of luck and a taste for revenge we can win the fa cup and finish 4th..look at spurs, man city and liverpools run in we have the upper hand.

I am not a Villa supporter but I see most of their games on TV. I think that you have one of the best managers if not the best in the Premiership. It would be a tragedy if he left.

To be thrashed by Chelsea is a one off. Watch their come-back in the next game!
