McCarthy plans improved Wolves
Tuesday 30th March 2010, 11:29AM BST.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy is already planning a new and improved Premier League team for next season while insisting survival remains the priority this term.
The manager has presided over an eight-point haul in the last four games that has seen his buoyant side climb to 14th, five points above the drop zone.
McCarthy is convinced Wolves are better than several teams, but admits avoiding relegation is the first aim.
He said: “It would be lovely to be better than a few teams – that would be my ambition for the rest of the season. We set off with the ambition of staying up so let’s not try to change it just because we’ve had a couple of good performances.
“Let’s just maintain the equilibrium that we’re a team that wants to stay up and get better next season if we do. Let’s just try to get better year on year.
“I still maintain that one point or even goal difference will ultimately be enough to stay up, and of course we’d take that.
“But I do believe we’ve got a good squad of players.”
Wolves’ change in fortunes has come about since switching to 4-5-1, a switch that has yielded three wins and four draws and McCarthy acknowledges it had to be made.
He said: “We hadn’t been playing badly – 4-4-2 had suited us. But we had the discussion and I said to my assistant Terry Connor that if we carried on getting beat it would be madness. We decided we would look at it, change it and it’s worked. It could have gone better of course.
“But if you take March, we’ve lost to Manchester United when we shouldn’t have done, we’ve beaten Burnley and West Ham, and drawn with Villa and Everton, who are the form team.
“So March has been fabulous month for us.”
McCarthy is also not worrying about Saturday’s opponents Arsenal, as the Molineux boss can’t decide whether to watch the Gunners in action in their Champions League quarter-final first leg against Barcelona tomorrow.
He said: “I’ve no plan to do so at the moment, I’ll watch it on the telly. I’ve seen enough of Arsenal.
“If I went I still wouldn’t be sure what shape they’ll be playing and how to stop them.”

Its going to be an especially tough Premiership next season
If the current bottom 3 go down they will be replaced by 3 stronger sides than they are. On the surface there seems less ‘dead wood’ in the likely line up of next seasons Prem
Its great that we have a very good chance of being part of it
Report abuse
We are getting stronger as the season comes to an end,a tribute to the lad’s fitness and energy levels while teams like the Villa are running out of steam like they did last year.Obviously need 4 or 5 proven premier players in for next year but it’s all looking rosy at the moment.
I’ve got the shape sorted for you Mick.
Id play 9 on the goal line and leave doyle upfront on his own.
Best chance for a point I feel ;)

well said mick i think your tactics have been spot on and agree we should have had a few more points especially against man utd and bolton also villa but well done

I think mick is taking us places and that can only be a good thing. UP THE WOLVES!

1. Dont make me laugh, Newcastle sure they will be able to strengthen but they are hardly a great side considering they got relegated last time round….The Baggies look likely to come up but they are worse than they were when they went down last time, will lose Dorrans and will not be able to sign any real quality and the rest in the play offs are dross. Lots of Baggies in disguise making similar posts, just cos you keep saying it doesn’t make it true lads.
Granted. We could have picked up a few extra points….Man U,Villa and Everton but that wasn’t to be. But I think it did help MM and the lads pick up the pace along with a little Lady Luck who wasn’t always on our side,ie, Bolton etc.
The focus now has to be to keep it up.Wigan helped us last night, all of the lowest teams have a tough weekend coming up,let’s take a point from Arsenal and continue upwards.

N1
It WILL be stronger next year
- First and foremost I hope we stay up (I believe we will)
- Secondly we must strengthen massively to cement our place in this division and make ourselves a class apart from Albion and the Play off Winner
Newcastle will strengthen massively, West Ham (if they survive)will strengthen massively
There are fewer sitting ducks .. and for the first time since the end of 78/79 I really feel we are on the verge of something special… to achieve that we must be better this pre season than last.
First things first n all that however
Report abuse
I believe that one more win will be enough but with the fixtures we have left we are capable of getting to 40 points and that would be a terrific achievement.
Forget about who will come up. Wolves young players will benefit from this experience and get better and better.
We have class players in Hahnemann, Zubar, Jarvis, Jones, Henry and Doyle. Craddock has been immense but will probably play less next season. Foley ultimately needs to play in defence. Kites and Edwards have been out injured and have been missed. Others have performed well in certain games – Berra, Stearmen, Mancienne, Guedioura and Milijas.
Sign about 5 or 6 players and get rid of the likes of Hennessey, the Hoff and Halford and we will be ok!
8. Dont buy it mate, you are a baggie. It will be stronger because WE will be stronger. None of the teams coming up are of any concern, Newcastle may or may not strengthen, lets not forget the owner wants out and will not speculate to accumulate and Smith, Nolan etc… hardly set the Prem alight last season and are no longer spring chicks. Taylor will be off too. Baggies……love to see them up for the derby but if they don’t finish rock bottom AGAIN or maybe second bottom depending on who comes up in the play offs i’ll run the marathon in Tesco shirt!! Play offs who in their is anywhere close to being good enough? as for West Ham they look like blowing it anyway and if Hull stay in you can count them out by default for next year! We will be in position to attract better players this summer and teams coming up and the likes of Wigan and Blackburn are not as attractive as us. Frankly I think the league is not that great and is in decline in terms of quality and I dont see that changing certainly the bottom half anyway. I’d take 16th 17th next year again now thank you very much, slow and steady…..
Forget next season, we dont know which league we will be in as yet. We have given ourselves a great chance but we are no-where near there yet. We need 2 wins!! Sure we have a chance of beating Stoke, Blackburn, Sunderland and Portsmouth, a point maybe at Fulham but what if we end up with nothing?? Dont higher the expectation levels yet and articles like this really do not help keep focus on what is still a tough job in hand.
I will be at Arsenal, Fulham, Portsmouth and all the home games obviously. Up the Wolves till the very end. I am a grounded Wolves fan.
brummierobwolves – as an invester in youth, why would you suggest getting rid of an up and coming goalkeeper as good as Hennessey?? He is learning, still only young and although he didnt really cut it at this stage in the Prem, surely worth keeping???
Halford agreed, havnt seen enough of the Hoff but what I did see fair enough but I wouldnt get rid of Wayne at this stage.
We do need to sign 5 or 6 quality players I agree and get rid of some deadwood.

8 – Royn
Diagree.
Why would we need to strengthen ‘massively’ when we could well finish above 3 more teams who don’t get relgated? West Ham will spend big?? Have you seen who owns them – have you read the size of their debts??
I feel this is a stupid debate for fans to be having at this point – enjoy (hopefully) the success of staying up. We can worry about next season in June/July. The management should be looking for players constantly and hopefully the aim is to finish closer to half way up next year, but for those of us who spent 20 years watching in the Champ and below lets not get too blaze about being in the Prem after one season.
I truly believe we will stay up but the only way forward next season will be with a competent manager NOT McCARTHY.It`s only his lack of buying and tactical know how that we are in the position we are in now.Last season we were able to score at will and were the highest scorers in the championship. What went wrong?why haven`t we been able to score more goals this season? It`s down to his poor management capabilities and nothing else.I too am a stalwart Wolves fan but cannot back McCarthy after what he has done to us this season.Yes we will stay up but it`s not down to him it`s down to the players,or most of them.It looks like Avram Grant wil leave Portsmouth at the end of the eason, get him tied up now Mr.Morgan, let`s see some ambition.

we need 3 quality players with experience to go with what we have next season and we need to ofload some of the nearly men that we brought this season , we dont have to break the bank, but we will have to pay some wages!! mcarthys done great i really belive we will make it this season reckon a win and a draw will do 2 wins to be safe!!
UP THE WOLVES!!!!

I cannot believe that there are still people disparaging MM. What’s he got to do before these people get off his back.
Mick took over half a squad, got us promoted in three years and is likely to keep us up. Next season will see a strengthening of the squad as we will be more likely to recruit better players.
Spanish Ray (14) is talking so much tosh and really ought to focus on the reality. According to him Alex Furguson is not to be praised because its the players that do it. Of courses it is but its the manager that picks the players and when he picks ones that win we call him great and when he picks players that lose games we call him failure. Mick has won far more games than he has lost since hios arrival.
Staying in the premiership – and stuffing the baggies next year.
Dont think its a good idea to count our chickens just yet,on the other hand if we stay up we need to aim higher than Tommy Smith and Mokeana, just because they are cheap it dosent mean they will add quality.

In MICMAC we trust !

I agree that we are harder to beat since mick has changed to the 4-5-1 but just wish for the matches at the golden palace what are left we go back to playing the 4-4-2 give doyler some help and give seb a chance to score a few b4 the season ends cus the 3 home matches left are there to be won and if we want to be a premiership side we should be beating sides like stoke blackburn and sunderland
Report abuse
I fully agree with 14- Spanish Ray. If we stay up, and there is still every chance we may be relegated, having to rely on the poor performance of other teams is not a good scene.
Granted, the players have played their hearts out, and deserve everything that comes to them, but that parasite McCarthy will expect and take all the praise, which is so wrong.
Wolves are were they are because of the likes of Craddock, Henry, Jarvis,Hannermann & Doyle, not the expertise of our Manager, and I hope and pray that Morgan is bright enough to realise this, bring in a proven Manager for next Season, recruit 5/6 players, and release or attempt to sell…Ebanks, Big Chris, Castello, and Halford.
While I believe that Doyle is a great player, and has played very well for Wolves under difficult circumstances, If we stay up, I would sell him and bring in a more experienced, seasoned Premiership striker, capable of working with Jarvis, Edwards, Kightly, Volkes, and Foley…
I have always believed that Doyle did not really fit in with Wolves style, and would do better for himself else where.
Good Luck Wolves, You deserve to stay up, and you deserve a new leader…so lets release McCarthy during the Summer.
I hear he has a few good mates in Australia, and as I understand it ..Perth Glory, would welcome him with open arms.
Knowing that ‘muppet Mick’ was ‘down under’ would please me no end, after all, he deserves a change.

12) Rich, I believe that Hennessey plays better in a Wales shirt than a Wolves one. Someone of his height should really be able to control the 6 yard box – as a minimum – but stays rooted to his line. I reckon Ikeme is still a better bet. If you exclude Murray, you cannot keep 3 good keepers happy.

I was also unsure about MM up until midway through the season but my feelings have changed and I believe he could become a GREAT manager…..everyone learns every day at the highest level as Mick is doing, maybe a sidekick to decide on talent would not go amiss, but don’t you see some of that stubborness in Sir Alex??….I rest my case.

Contrary to some of the comments above, I think McCarthy has done an excellant job of firstly winning the Championship and now (probably) keeping us in the Premiership.
To me it seems we are in a similar situation to Stoke last year. They retained their Premiership status last year and have consolidated it this year.
We do need some more quality players to improve our position next season.
However, we are never going to be buying players from Real Madrid, AC Milan, Barcelona, etc.

What MM has done for us this season is get us to 14th, where we will stay and I reckon go a bit better.
You say its not down to him but the players, let me tell you something. The players love him and play for him, he signed them, he coaches them. Players don’t coach themselves. What he has done has got them all playing the TEAM game.
Have you ever considered a career in comedy, you sure as hell make me laugh.

14- spanish ray- Its funny critisising Mick for tactics when you were one of the idiots that wanted him out for selling Eastwood, hes doing well now isnt he? You were also one of the idiots that critisised him for signing a goalie with only a couple of seasons in the prem, and a striker from the league we have just left, yet both these signings have done wonders for us this season. To those of us that have a little bit of belief in how our club is being run, that have shown a bit of faith, positivity and supported through both the good and bad runs, and who also understand that we’re now a small fish in a big pond building ourselves up – this is oh so much sweeter. Spanish Ray …for Christ’s sake change the record and the same goes for your mate Angry Wolf and the rest of the muppetmick brigade.
Forgetting the Sunderland debacle,Mick McCarthy has had to gain his Premiership experience as he’s gone along this season, and that’s the same as most of the players and a large percentage of the fans and it appears he knows what he’s doing. There have been mistakes along the way, but, has Ferguson or Wenger never made a mistake ?
We still have a few important steps to take before we can say ‘job done’ but dimwits like you two are bang out of order at such an important, and hopefully joyous, time.

Blimey, at this rate most of you will be worrying if we can cut it in 10 years time even if we’ve been in the Premiership for the whole time! Live for now and enjoy it! And where else are we going to get a manager that we can’t wait to see ‘giving it some’ to the interviewer on t’telly?

#22 Angry Wolf.
‘Fans’ (hmmm) like you really perplex me sometimes.
So you think we should sell Doyle if we manage to stay up?
So let me get this straight. You are quite happy to sell probably the hardest working striker we have had, certainly since Bully himself. The striker who like Bully will chase lost causes, not give defenders a minute’s rest and ALSO score goals, link play and play other people in too? You say his style is not suited to Wolves? You’ve GOT to be kidding!!
Next season with the pitch back to the correct size, Jarvo flying down the wing, Doyle will make you eat your words.
SEB will be great again, I have no doubts about that, it’s just a confidence thing for him. However, SEB would not do HALF the running and chasing that Doyle does, even once he IS back to his old self again. I’m not knocking the guy, just stating a fact.
You say we can get a seasoned striker in to replace Super Kev? A player who will want probably want TWICE as much wages as he currently earns and do LESS for it?
DON’T MAKE ME LAUGH!!!!!
I think it’s YOU who deserve a change, NOT Mick. Go and support another club next season (if you do support this one anyway), this one is WAY too ordinary for glory hunting types such as yourself.
As for me, I would be more than happy to build steadily and create a better side OVER TIME, not in 5 minutes with players who will play for their pocket and NOT for the club and fans. Before it’s mentioned, I DO realise that MOST current players are in it for the money. Doyle though can’t be, if so he would have gone to Fulham, Everton, Villa, Sunderland etc in the summer and not us. ALL of those clubs would have payed him more than he gets now I bet. They are also ALL long serving Premiership clubs and not first (well second really) timers to the league.
Hull are almost paying the price now for the ‘quick fix’ at the moment. So if that is your plan for next season, go and support another club. Meanwhile all the true Wolves fans (through good and bad) can enjoy (hopefully) a second season in this league and watch Doyle as he REALLY starts to show the defenders in this league what he can do given the chance, partnering an on form SEB.
Don’t get me wrong, every season we need to improve. That has to be the case for the growth of the club and eventually will lead to affording the ‘better players’
But NOT at the risk of exposing the club to a similar predicament of Hull or West Ham or worse Portsmouth.
We Are Wolves.

Talk of getting rid of Mick is utter nonsense. For the first time since the Turner years, we have stability in the management instead of sacking them every two years. This is our EIGHTH season in the top flight since 1977, for crying out loud!
I think Mick could be a very good Prem boss with a couple of seasons under his belt. Anyone ever heard of Sam Allardyce? Took Bolton up, took em down, then took em up and kept em up. Their first two seasons back ended up in last-day escapes from relegation – the season after, they were challenging for Europe.
We’ve finally bucked the trend of sacking the manager when the fans start screaming, and thank God for that. Now we’ve a chance to do something the Tesco’s have NEVER done – actually build on a good Prem season instead of being a miserable, sponsor-free yo-yoing club.
And on the subject of investment – next season, Newcastle already have a load of over-paid charlies and Mike Ashley lost half his cash in the recession. West Ham, if they survive, are £100m in debt and will have to sell before they can buy. Albion? Don’t make me laugh. Who’s going to sign for them?
We won’t need to spend £30m; we won’t be challenging for the Champions League. Look what big-money big-wage signings have done for Hull. We don’t need that, we ned to consolidate. We’re good enough to survive this season – what we don’t need is to screw it up next season.
A point at the Emirates; Wenger to moan about Karl Henry’s tackling!

No9. i dont agree at all with you, Wayne Hennessey is one of the best ‘YOUNG’ GK’s ive eever seen at the Wolves in my 46yrs watching our great club. GK is one of the hardest positions to play, and is the most exposed thats for sure. One mistake its a goal, yet defenders/midfielders/strikers make numerous mistakes and get away with it. Take Ward how many mistakes does he make during a match? Berra? Zubar who is one of my fav-players yet they get away with them, but a gk has no hiding place one slip its usually in the net. Wayne has great potential he’s only 22/23 he’s still got lots to learn and who better to teach him than Marcus Hahnemann 37yrs old who’s got nearly as much Experience as Wayne’s AGE. No 12.Rich5Wolves,I agree we need to get rid of 5-6 of the deadwood players and replace them IF we stay up with 5-6 PL players with 3-5yrs proven PL experience, i.e LB.CH.CM.STKR,Winger. But like a few other people on here i think MM has done an excellent job since coming here, we was a sinking ship after that useless prat Hoddle ( Worst manager in Wolves history)left and MM has done a fantastic job getting a good team together, then getting us promoted and now keeping our heads above the drop zone at present. But im afraid i dont think MM is the manager to take us to the next level and keep us progressing forward. And whatever happens i think one thing is for certain TC is ‘NOT’ a Top Coach and he must be replaced there are better coaches than him, take Ward he’s not matured one bit as a full back under TC coaching, he still stands 10yrds to far away from his player when he gets the ball, and still stands the wrong side of players from corners/free kicks, and loses concentration to easily for my liking. Also we need a Top GK coach get Bobby Mimms back or try Mike Stowell? but this Pat Mountain as been a disaster for Hennessey’s development the man is inept as a coach if we are to remain in the PL we ‘NEED’ TOP COACHES as well as ‘TOP PLAYERS’. 2nd raters are ‘NOT GOOD ENOUGH’UTW

Spanish Ray & Angry Wolf! You are so off the mark its comical.
Scoring for fun and winning the Championship ain’t the same in the Premiership!
It was always IF we could improve the standard from last season, and IF we bought wisely and IF we had no injuries…then maybe we’d have a realistic chance of finishing 17th!
I’m no happy clapper but I’m delighted with Mick as manager right now & for the future.

51) Wayne Hennessey is no better than Carl Ikeme. I thought that he might have finally overcome the coming off the line phobia but he has not. Look at the Blues game last season… do you think Hahnemann would have let that happen.
The best goalkeeper we have by a mile is Murray but he will probably not play again. We have Hahnemann and Ikeme and have signed a very promising keeper from Ireland, so Hennessey could be sold. With all the previous transfer rumours about Everton, Arsenal and Villa being after him it might have gone to his head!

McCarthy, I feel, has learned from some humilation he had endured along the way with Sunderland, especially crashing back down to the Championship immediately after getting them into the top flight. He learned. He took notes. he remembered the feeling of going down. It’ sort of like with those players that, at one moment you don’t rate, but then seem to improve slowly but steadily over a certain period of time; they just sneak up on you, and have you saying, “where did he come from…he’s top man!” McCarthy is going to sneak up on you, and so may his Wolves on the rest of the EPL, over time!

Mick Mcarthy in my opinion took over a club that were relegation certs signed young hungry players ( i recall fans wanting this for years when we were signing over the hill has beens), and took them to the play offs, two years later they stormed the championship.
Whem MM was at Sunderland he had no money to spend (was it six mill) not even Sir Alex would have kept Sunderland up.
Mcarthy’s job this season is to KEEP WOLVES IN THE PREM. If he does that then next season he has to improve or go.
Newcastle have no money spend, Tesco have money but won’t be able to attract any quality and if Cardiff went up they will the money to pay of debts.
I believe West Ham will go down with Burnley & Portsmouth.
Wolves who will stop up, are going to look a more attractive proposition to better players, I hope we can keep Doyle, but when the likes of Man U, Chelski & Arsenal come knocking then its going to be difficult

cornish the answer is none what so ever
and why leave a prem club for a club that knows its only hope for fame and glory is to be in the prem and that it wont happen, watch scotish football disappear before your eyes over the next 5 years
as for all the negative comments about mm well just change the record and get behind the team and all who serve it, its becoming boring and repetitive like watching the telly tubbies, same show different main charactor, now i dont care if you wanna be tinky winkie or poe but its time to wake up and realise we aint so bad and if we stay up be brave enough to admit you are wrong, because it looks like you are
then again you would moan if we had just won the premiership on goal difference stating it was not acceptable … get a grip for the love of god

I am presuming we stay up and I think for next season we need:
1) An experienced Prem centre back (not sure who) as Craddock can’t go on forever.
2) A new left back.
3) A right winger
4) A striker.
Potential probs.
1) Doyle and Zubar could both be on the buy list of other clubs, ditto Jarvis. Hope we can buy them.
2) Where does Ebanks Blake fit into our new formation – he may want to go. He may not be Prem class. If we can get safety early maybe Mick will give him a run out?

Time to rest some of the regulars against Arsenal? This might make sense as I think whatever team we take and how well they play we will get beat by them at their place.
By the way there may be some good players we could nab depending on relegation.
1) O’Hara, Pompey, via Spurs of course.
2) Chris Eagles.
3) Jimmy Bullard (a great leader and inspirational type) he’s the ONE reason Hull still have a decent shout.

I feel the same way as you. I cannot see any premiership manager willingly going to jokie jock league.
Besides MM exudes loyalty from every pore and will want to explore just how far he can take this team.
With the money gained from staying up added to some available at the club next seasons team should prove interesting.
I for one have faith in MM as a manager not many have his motivational strengths.

Mick McCarthy could win the league and there would still be some slagging him off… Oh, hold on – he did, last season..
I wonder if Stan Cullis ever got the same treatment? No doubt Spanish Ray’s uncle was calling for him to be sacked after missing out on the double in 1960….

No 54. I fully agree that Matt Murray has been our best gk since Mike Stowell/Paul Jones, but lets be honest a fully fit MM would have been playing for a Top 4 team, and got loads of England Caps by now. There is no way Wolves would have been able to keep him has the top teams would have made JM an offer HE couldn’t refuse, plus with Matt’s team mates leaving to further their careers, im sure he would have followed had he got any ambition to play at the Top/England too. Its been nothing short of tragic what that lad as suffered through injuries, has he’s also a lovely lad always got time for supporters very polite, unlike some Wolves players im afraid to say. Yes Carl Ikeme is a very good gk too, we’ve been blessed in the gk department over the years, take the two gk’s i mentioned above which ever one played you were always confident in them. But myself i hope Wayne stays and fights for his place and excepts he’s still got a lot to learn. Like ive said before he got into the Wales team at an early age, but without being disrespectful to Wales that isn’t very hard to do is it. One man and is ‘DOG’ or should that be ‘SHEEP’could get into the Welsh team.

Having been a schoolboy player at Wolves when Stan Cullis was there I can assure you that he would not have shown the restraint to the critics that MM has.

48 – wol1877ves – Mick may or may not be a great manager, it is yet to be decided yet, but i know that allot of managers would have just settled for the team continuously losing as we were playing well, and come the end of the season when we were relegated they would have balmed it on bad luck. Mick saw we were playing well, tried to stick with it and then changed it to get some much needed points, which was a stroke of genius.
An example of a manager hoping for the best was tony mobray with the baggies last season. and the same old excuse was used, we played well, but were unlucky to get relegated.
If you had any clue about what managing a football club is like you would realise its not as simple as losing a few games and changing the team, especially when your a newly promoted club who by all rights should be losing the majority of its matches any way.
61 – paul mullery – Take Jarvis, Kightly, Blake, Keogh, Iwelumo (did fantastic for us last season when most was slagging him off), and Doyle. There are many more buys that have been successfull too. Theres not many managers that can spend 25,000 on a player like kightly. Name 1 manager that hasnt made some dodgy transfers. not even sir alex and wenger can escape that claim.

Currently watching the Champions League first-leg action, from the Emerites, and have to feel a tad bit for Arsenal, though, come this weekend, no sympathy will be put paid as we will take it to them, or hold them! I rate our chances as 40/60 to 50/50, to somehow scratch out a result. However, staying sensible and taking a “big picture’ perspective, feeling we need only four or five points from our following five fixtures, not getting anything will only make our EPL survival that much more exciting! As for our luxurious goalkeeping situation, on another post related to Marcus Hahnemann, aka “Chewy,” Mick has a good delima on his hands with potentially four top-class shot-stoppers to decide on over the summer, so let’s not over concern ourselves with that position, because it is in Good Handsas I speak!

What a great result for us tonight, Arsenal had Two players taken OFF injured then was forced to keep Fabregas ON whilst in agony which as got to be Good News for Wolves. Hopefully the amount of ‘high energy’ they had to use to compete with Barcelona can only be good news for us on Saturday, plus the injuries to three key players is an added bonus. Then have to go there still with an outside chance, and will need ALL their best/fit players, i know CF cant play but i think he will be out for a few weeks with his knee injuy. I dont mean to be nasty but when your in our position in the league, as TESCO say ‘every little helps’ We can go there now and at least have a better chance than with Arsenal fresh and a fully fit squad. UTW GOOD LUCK FOR SATURDAY LADS.

54. You clearly dont like Hennessey, but its your opinion, and thats what makes football a great game ‘Opinions’ we ALL have them. I personally dont rate Steven Ward as a Left-
Back, he has NO positional sense whatsoever he always stands at least TEN-YARDS off the player he’s marking when the player recieves the ball, so giving the player time to control the ball, look up then decide whether to cross it or take Ward on. He should be NO more than 4-6yrds when the ball is arriving then NO more than 1-2yrds when its at the players feet, he often stands the wrong side of a player when marking at set-plays, i.e Drogba when he scored 1st goal here. But i have said that TC must take some blame has he’s the coach? like i said last night he’s a poor coach who needs replacing next season with a ‘Top Coach’ As i said its ALL about opinions isn’t it.

I don’t particularly like McCarthy, he says things he doesn’t need to, especially regarding the fans.
However, I have huge respect for him for the job he has done for our football club & I don’t think that should be forgotten, the way he has moved the club forward, he has been the most sucessful manager since Graham Turner, who given the predicament the club was in when he arrived, was the most important manager in the club’s history, no question & I remember the stick he got from the fans towards the end of his regime, it was a disgrace!
McCarthy may not be the most dynamic or styish manager in the world, but as clubs go niether are Wolves, but if he estabishes us in the big league, who’s moaning???

Hope Wolves can maintain its form and remain in the PL.
If they played as they had done for the past few games then our goals will be achieve.
I,for one do think that MM and TC had done reasonably, given the resources that we have and to compete with other teams to add more quality to the club. The players that we have in the squad had improved and gained much needed experience playing in this league and I feel they can only get better. They will be some who will leave after this season for one reason or another. So we should give support not only to the players but also to coaches, management and the support staff.
We do need a quality striker given the poor strike ratio that we have but this are thought best left after the end of this season.
Up the Wolves and a positive result for this Saturday at the Emirates.

I wouldnt take anything for granted, were not safe yet. a bad result at arsenal, and the other teams around us picking up points will keep us looking over our heads.
Mick was forced to play 4-5-1 with kightly injured and having no replacement, and SEBs poo form and having no replacement. We also looked far more likely to concede playing 4-4-2.
Replacing hennesey, stearman, halford, edwards, with hannerman, jones, guedioura and zubar has made a significant difference.Having a stable side and few injuries has really helped, but in my opinion hannerman, cradock, henry, jarvis and doyle are mainly repsonsible for us having a good chance of staying up.
