Manager’s challenge for fringe players

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy will challenge some of their big guns to break into his starting line-up by impressing in the reserves.

The manager named an unchanged line-up for six games in a row until the 3-1 win at West Ham six days ago and went with the same team for Saturday’s goalless draw against Everton.

But fringe players Dave Edwards, Andy Keogh, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Sam Vokes are among those first teamers who will start the reserve game against Stoke at AFC Telford tomorrow night (7pm).

McCarthy said: “Dave is fine and he’s playing tomorrow. He’s straining at the leash but so is everyone else. Some will play in the reserves – Andy Keogh, Sylvan and Sam so there’s a few.”

The Wolves boss insisted those out of the team cannot have any complaints.

He added: “No one can be cribbing about not being in the team.

“Like everyone else, they all want to play but the 13 or 14 who have been starting with George Elokobi and Michael Mancienne who have come in, have all been terrific.”
