Carson admits defeat in England bid
Monday 29th March 2010, 11:57AM BST.
Albion captain Scott Carson has admitted defeat in the battle for an England World Cup place despite his best performance in Baggies colours.
The skipper starred in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Reading, as Roberto Di Matteo’s side extended their unbeaten Championship run to six matches and moved closer to promotion.
But the 24-year-old has dismissed talk of a recall to Fabio Capello’s squad before this summer’s World Cup finals in South Africa.
He said: “I’d like to be at the World Cup but I don’t think it will happen now. I’m just getting my head down and trying to improve. The next time we’re in the Premier League, hopefully we can have a good season, and then maybe I’ll think about it.
“England is at the back of my mind at the moment and I’m just trying to concentrate on playing consistently well.
“Mr Capello’s first thought is going to be the Premier League – that’s the top league. I think it’s too late for me.
“There is Joe Hart, Paul Robinson, Rob Green and David James who are ahead of me in the pecking order.”
But Carson insisted time is still on his side to work his way back onto the international stage.
He added: “I have just had my 24th birthday, so hopefully I’ve got another 10 or 15 years in football.
“If you’re playing well hopefully England will take care of itself.”

I’d like to be at the world cup too but I also am not good enough. Arrogant to even suggest he is close, he had a good game on Saturday but has been carried for the two seasons he has been with us, I hope we purchase a new keeper in the summer.

Next time Scott, I’m surprised you are only 24 you look more like 34, and you seem to have been around for ages. Anyways keep the good performances and we’ll have another crack at the promise land.

nice one tedwolf i bet you would like to go the hawthorns fri aswell but your not welcome .scot keep up the good form mate and we will look for some clean sheets against the dings next season

Ted, you have no idea what you are talking about, get off Scott’s back and support him. He is a young goalie and will keep getting better. Why do you guys only focus on the negatives and remember the mistakes players make, lets focus on the good games players have and remember where they have us positioned in the league and on the verge of promotion.
Come on you Baggies.

How Scott Carson can say he admits defeat in his England bid, is a bit of an overstatement isnt it? He was never a contender anyway…Was He????

I agree with Carsons assessment need to be in PL and if we dont self destruct and you are consistent theres no reason why you shouldnt get another chance after all the competition is not great!! Its true Scott showed why he
could be number one our two centre backs looked like it was first time theyd played to
gether I feel Carson like good wine will improve with age he does need to be more
commanding shout at his defenders he is Capt
the more natural Capt should be Olssen if he
dosent want it then Tamas who always has plenty to say We do need a fit Bednar back
Miller has some way to go to be similar true
hes raw and agressive but is some way off the
complete striker fails too often in front of
goal. lets hope Forest dont end dismal away form tonight.

1954 Baggie is probably right when he points out that the competition is not great when it comes to picking keepers for England. Strange really when you think of Banks,Shilton and Clemence. Scott is young to be an international keeper and needs more experience before a recall plus he needs to show more consistency. With regard to 1954′s comments about Ishmael he seems to forget that he’s coming back from a career threatening injury and has done well to be playing at his current level. Given more games and a pre season training will produce a big improvement next year. His rawness and aggression make him special and we could well have another Regis on our hands. Quite a few of our players have had serious injuries and some fans seem to expect an instant return to form. To get over injuries like Ish and Mozza have had is a lengthy process.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Carson has been included in England squads – so not a pipe dream, just an honest self-assessment of his current situation.
If the Wulfs stay up, I wonder how long before the ‘top four finish next season’ chatter will begin? Now that’s what I call delusional!

Carson playing in goal for England?
We’d be better playing 11 out and having a rush back !

9. We cant say too much there was a few on here ‘Going to europe the Mowbray way’ we finished bottom and then he left us along with our best player Greening.
Joe Hart, David James, Robert Green, Chris Kirkland and a few others are infront of him. He needs to command his area, cut out the silly mistakes and work on his kicking before he lives this pipe dream again. He had a chance and let the country and himself down.

Carson, unfortunately for him, is one of those players that will NEVER be accepted by some of our number.
He could keep 30 clean sheets in a season, but his detractors will readily advice you that it`s solely down to the defence, and their Gran could keep goal in those circumstances.
In short, he cannot win with some of our fans.
However, at least two people on this thread are NOT Baggie fans.
Ted……….Iv`e not seen his name on theese boards before, and his comments scream dingle.
Oldburyite……….A seal, are you still a tad miffed about the weekend sir ?
It`s Sunday morning in the Freidel household,
Mrs Freidel wakes up with a start, realising that they had forgotten to advance the clocks by one hour.

R B I wasnt being critical of Ish I to think hes done remarkably well I was comparing him
with Roman as a leader of the line hes a
different type he does still have a lot to learn. I was suprised to see young Woods at
Reading he hasnt been on the bench so wheres he been? I was delighted to see JT keep his
composure, ater the previous red i felt sure they would get at him we did well they are the
form team in this league. Lets hope Forest dont end their poor away form tonight.

As some of you guys already said Scott Carson will never be liked by some, if kept 46 clean sheets this season some would still be having a go. The games we have lost this year (all 7 of them) were partly down to poor defending and sloppy passing, you can’t blame every goal we have conceded on Carson. Yes he has made mistakes but no more than any other player.
Good result for us tonight, puts us 9 points clear. Still not job done though, still 18 points to play for, however if we win our next one and Forest slip up again it will be a tall order for them to catch us.
Newcastle fully deserve to be where they are, they’ve been outstanding all season and are sure to have a big transfer kitty in summer.

I have no doubt that Scott carson will be a future England regular – he will play in a world cup – he may even be our keeper when we win the damn thing again.
He is still young for a top keeper and probably was too young to be chucked into a must win qualifier at 22 years old.
He has shown this season that he has every attribute a keeper needs and he will become more consistant every season – even though he has played for england he is still almost “one for the future”.
To all the dingles on here – its wasn’t so long ago that you were bragging you had the best keeper outside the prem in Hennesey – yet a couple of errors from and you binned him. RDM has shown faith in Carson which he is repaying already.

Nice to see so many dingles interested in scots
welfare. Believe in your own skills and don’t let
one international mistake when you were only twenty two spoil the wonderful career you have ahead of you. The last few games show you are making great strides. Hope you are with us a long
long time.
