Berra’s belief in ‘massive’ advantage

Christophe Berra believes Wolves secured a “massive” advantage in their quest for Premier League survival with Saturday’s point against form team Everton.
The Scotland international helped Mick McCarthy’s men to their fourth successive unbeaten game to equal their best in the Premier League.
Wolves are now five points above the safety line with six games left and up to 14th on goal difference, after Bolton’s 4-0 home defeat to Manchester United.
Berra said: “It’s a massive point for us. Everton have only had two defeats in 18 league games and are probably the form team of the league at the moment.
“They have just won at Manchester City and have also beaten Manchester United and the other top teams as well. They have got great players and play good football but they also mix it as well physically.
“We rode our luck at times but you have to do that in the Premier League.”
Berra admitted Wolves were indebted to the experience of 37-year-old goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann.
The defender said: “We had to call in Marcus a few times, but that’s what he’s there for and his experience helps us. We had chances of our own but we’ve drawn with Everton twice and it’s another good point.
“They knew they were in a game and it was another strong performance from us. It was a difficult game.
“They’ve got Louis Saha and then Yakubu up front and have got some very good midfield runners in Tim Cahill, Leon Osman and Steven Pienaar. They came here wanting three points and our first 20 minutes was probably the worst for a wee while.
“That was a bit disappointing but then we worked our way into the game and had a few chances.”
The point made it eight from four games and Berra believes Wolves surprised a few people as they prepare to go to Arsenal on Saturday.
He said: “I don’t think anyone would have thought we’d have taken seven points out of nine from the away games and it could even have been nine.
“But now we’ve taken eight points out of 12 which is a great return and we take that into a nice easy game at Arsenal!”
