Your say on the match action

Expressandstar.com bring you the news from our teams around the region and across the country.

Follow all the stats minute by minute on our Match Centre.

16:50: A miserable day on the whole for our teams in the region but a good point for Wolves, who took another step towards safety by snaring a goalless draw against Everton at Molineux.

The real relegation losers of the day were West Ham, who lost at home to Stoke, with Hull pulling level on points with a game in hand after beating Fulham at the KC Stadium.

And no Villa fan in their worst nightmare could have forseen the horror that befell the claret and blues at Stamford Bridge today, a record Premier League defeat for the club after a 7-1 massacre at Chelsea.

Albion left the Madjeski Stadium pleased with a point after an 86th minute equaliser from Gabriel Tamas at Reading, when a win would have taken them to the top of the Championship with Newcastle playing third-placed Nottingham Forest on Monday.

Birmingham threw a spanner into the works of Arsenal’s title challenge with a stoppage time equaliser at St Andrew’s, the trusty old head of Kevin Phillips coming to the rescue from the bench.

There was nothing to shout about for Walsall fans either, after another demoralising defeat at Exeter in League One.

16:50: Full-time around the grounds across the country.

16:47: Birmingham have stunned Arsenal with a somewhat fortuitous equaliser at St Andrew’s, the ball careering in off the ever-dependable sub Kevin Phillips.

16:45: It’s going from bad to worse for Villa, as they concede another and Frank Lampard’s fourth of the game to make the scoreline an astonishing 7-1.

16:41: Albion have saved themselves with a late equaliser at Reading, what a time for on-loan defender Gabriel Tamas to score his first goal for the club.

16:38: More despair for Villa as they go 6-1 behind at Stamford Bridge, the sixth goal scored by Salomon Kalou for the home side.

16:36: Birmingham’s resistance is finally broken by Arsenal at St Andrew’s through sub Samir Nasri’s goal for the Gunners.

16:24: Despair at Upton Park as West Ham, sinking fast into the relegation mire, go behind at home to Stoke through Ricardo Fuller’s goal.

16:23: Villa are headed for their heaviest defeat of the season and this could get worse – Florent Malouda has now made it 5-1 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

16:18: Walsall may have thrown themselves a lifeline after pulling a goal back at Exeter to make it 2-1, with Julian Gray hammering home his first goal for the club.

16:17: This is getting worse for Villa as they concede their second penalty of the game at Stamford Bridge, which Frank Lampard converts for his hat-trick to make it 4-1 after Richard Dunne’s foul, again on Yuri Zhirkov.

16:13: It’s slipping away from Walsall at St James Park as the Saddlers concede a penalty which Ryan Harley converts, after Jamie Vincent’s challenge on Barry Corr.

16:12: It looks like Villa are headed to defeat at Stamford Bridge now, after Florent Malouda puts Chelsea 3-1 up against the travelling claret and blues.

16:13: Wolves will be looking over their shoulders as it stands with Hull now two goals up at home to Fulham, through Craig Fagan’s header from Dean Marney’s cross.

16:00: Second-half around the grounds across the country.

15:50: Half-time around the grounds across the country.

15:44: Villa trail again at Stamford Bridge through Frank Lampard’s second goal and this time from the penalty spot, given for James Collins’ challenge on Yuri Zhirkov.

15:41: It’s a long way back for Portsmouth now, after former Pompey midfielder Niko Kranjcar puts Tottenham 2-0 up at White Hart Lane.

15:35: How is this for a first-half showing? Luton are already 7-0 up against Hayes & Yeading in the Blue Square Premier.

15:29: It’s that man again on hand to rescue Villa with the equaliser at home to Chelsea  – Ashley Young breaks away to put a ball across the box that John Carew prods home.

15:27: It could be a long day for Portsmouth at White Hart Lane – Peter Crouch has just put Tottenham ahead.

15:16: Hull grab a vital lead in their bid to beat the drop through Jimmy Bullard’s penalty against his former club Fulham, after Jozy Altidore was halted by Chris Smalling.

15:15: Three of our teams in the region behind in the first 15 minutes, as Chelsea take the lead through Frank Lampard’s opener against Villa at Stamford Bridge.

15:06: The news is no better at the Madjeski Stadium, as Reading have taken the lead against Albion through Gylfi Sigurdsson’s strike.

15:04: It takes just four minutes for the travelling Walsall fans to have their heads in their hands, as Matthew Taylor’s goal has the Saddlers behind at Exeter.

15:00: Kick-off around the grounds across the country.

14:30: A big day for our teams in the region with all five in action and a resurgent Wolves lead the way, with the visit of eighth-placed Everton to Molineux.

It’s an even bigger test for Villa, who go to Premier League title-chasers Chelsea in a dress rehearsal of next month’s FA Cup semi-final.

Ditto for Blues, who host another of the contenders of the throne in Arsenal, the first time the teams have met at St Andrew’s since THAT horrific leg break to Gunners striker Eduardo, who is on the bench today.

Albion aim to put another foot forward to promotion to the top flight at Reading today, in the fifth game between the two this season and the first since the Baggies’ ill-tempered FA Cup exit in February.

Up-and-down Walsall go to relegation-threatened Exeter in League One.

A good result but how long can we keep riding our luck?
Everton missed enough chances to win 4 games.
