Watson backs Albion to step up

On-loan Albion midfielder Ben Watson has insisted the Baggies have what it takes in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old has experienced the top flight with Crystal Palace and Wigan and he believes the Baggies can make the step up.

But he has warned they will again find a major gulf in quality if they secure promotion.

“In the Championship this is probably the best squad but the Premier League is another step up,” said Watson.

“You are playing against better players and better teams week in, week out, but I don’t see why West Brom can’t cut it in the Premier League.

“They’ve got experience. It’s quite a young team but quite an experienced team.

“I’ve been promoted in the past with Palace and lost in two play-off semi-finals with Palace.

“You can see this team has got quality. They have proved it all season and been up in the top two or three all season.”

But Watson has insisted Albion cannot start dreaming of spending next season in the Premier League until they have made sure of promotion.

“It’s about taking one game at a time,” he said.

“We had to win on Saturday, which we’ve done, and now it’s a case of looking at Coventry and the aim is to win that game.

“It’s not hard. If you do get carried away you get found out and you don’t end up getting promoted.

“We will take one step at a time and hopefully again on Wednesday we will end up getting three points.”
