A group of Wolves football fans had the experience of a lifetime when they got to train alongside their favourite players.
Five competition winners were given the chance to impress manager Mick McCarthy and Wolves legend Steve Bull as they endured a rigorous training session with fitness coach Tony Daley
.Each fan was each invited to take a friend along to a training session and five-a-side match at Wolves’ Compton training ground, in Douglas Turner Way, yesterday.
Among the winners, who beat Steve Bull’s monthly match predictions in the fantasy Wolves Accumulator betting game, was Paul Saville, aged 30, of Arnold Close, Walsall.
The machine operator took brother Mark Saville, aged 33, along for the behind-the-scenes tour and training, which included ball work, drills and a penalty shoot out.
He said: “It was an absolutely brilliant experience and I was thrilled when I found out what I’d won.”I used to play for weekend league teams so it was fantastic having the training session and meeting Mick.”
Tim Pringle, aged 50, who was born in Wolverhampton and now lives in Stoke, was one of four other winners. He took his 20-year-old daughter Bethany along for the training session.
He said: “ It was great to meet Mick and the team – I’m not sure they’ll be signing me up any time soon though! Bethany definitely showed me up.”
Mick McCarthy, who was also keeping an eye on the first team players who were preparing for their weekend clash with Everton, added: “It was a great day and I enjoyed taking the session.
“We didn’t treat them lightly as we wanted to give them as authentic an experience as possible. “They all put in 100 per cent with the fitness drills and I definitely saw a few decent players out there.
”Steve Bull, former Wolves striker and ambassador of Sportingbet.com which runs the Wolves Accumulator, said: “This is a great initiative, allowing fans to get the sort of access to their team that very few clubs would ever give.
“It’s always nice to give something back to the fans who sacrifice so much to support the club.”
