World Cup coming to the Public
Thursday 25th March 2010, 9:25AM GMT.
Giant screens are set to be put up outside arts centre the Public to screen live World Cup matches.
Football fever is expected to take over West Bromwich, in a bid to rival similar screenings in Birmingham city centre.
Another screen could also be put up outdoors in Oldbury near to the council house in the town square, although the majority of celebrations for the international football spectacle are expected to be concentrated in West Bromwich.
The area around the Public in New Street could get its own version of a fan park, with bars and themed events taking place inside the venue throughout the tournament.
Council bosses are currently in negotiations to find sponsors for the screens, but leader Councillor Darren Cooper revealed the council was prepared to put funding towards it as well, to ensure the World Cup is celebrated in style.
